COMPENSATING CURRENT TRANSFORMER (Abbreviation : BCT, BLCT or ACT) High- ond low-tensich side currents of tronsformer difler from each other in amplitude, end even in the phase depending upon the connection system of the trensformer. Especially when using the bushing type CT on the high-tension side ond wound type CT on the low-tension side, unbolanced current becomes the problem. Besides, there ore tops on the transformer, ond if the CT transformation ratio is to be chonged whenever the tops are changed, this is practically impossible, therefore, it is wrong 10 operate the relay by connecting the secondory Circuits of the CTs of the high- and low-tension sides of the tronsformer differentially ond directly. When ‘i the CTs ot the high: ond low-tension sides differ under the nocmel condition, a compensating current trensformer is used for thie purpose of making them coincide. This is fon autotransformer with mony taps, of which concrete examples ore shown as follows Ye secondary current of Fig. 1 In the connection shown in Fig. 1 the common Portion ab is called shunt winding, be which is not © common portion is called series winding. The ‘elotion between voltoge ond current, where the number of twins between, a and & is na ond that between a ond ¢ is me, it a8 follows Me Ve Note Uy —b)nn= tne aaa a For the sake of simplification, the winding ond exciting current ore neglected.) Current I[A] which lows between the shunt winding voltage drop ab it: I nne(t 1) STRUCTURE AND FUNCTIONS It is preferable to make this an autotransformer, because the self-burden of BCT decreases, ond the burden of CT will be reduced. (Note: In case of our system, instolled.) There ore many ways to install BCT: to install it seporately from the diflerentio! reley (Of) ond to incorporate it within the relay box, etc. There ore two connecting positions of BCT: One Is to adopt the primory current os the standard ond moke the secondary current coincide with it, the other is 10 use the secondary current as the stondord 4 it is. separately Primary | cr, =~ t ay ong Secondary’ 1 : fie. 2 1 rn secondory Y h Fa. 3 fond -have the primary current coincide with it. Thot Js 10 soy, viewed from the differential circuit 10 which the differential relay (Df) is connected, it becomes either the secondary side (CT2 side) of the primory side (CT side) In Fig. 2 the primory current is regarded as the stondard and BCT is fixed to the CT side, In Fig. 3 the secondary current is the standard and BCT is fixed to the CTy side. 2) STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS OF BCT Tr tang [BVA saeonm Baa “2. The reasons for’this ore thot . 1. Normally the primary current is considered the standard, 2. From the viewpoint of the CT burden, it is preferreble 10 place it on the CTz side, “> Fig. 4 far ce, when $945 ond 109 tps oe 100% top, about 5¥3A (8.66 A) will flow from tm 3896 wo.
