RBIwasestablishedon1April1935withthesoleaimtoworkasbankingsector
regulator.RBIwasnationalizedin1949.RBIregulatethebankingsector(government
andprivatebanks)bybankingregulationact1949andRBIact1935whichentrusted
responsibilityontheRBI
toworkfortheenhancementofbankingsectorinIndia.RBIisthesoleauthorityto
issuebankinglicensestoentitieswhowanttoopenbankinIndia,andifanybank
wanttoopennewbranchithastobetakepriorapprovalfromRBI.
ThemainaimofRBIistoprovidebankingservicestothelastmileofcountry.Tofull
thisinitiativeRBIhasstartedfinancialinclusionprogram.InthisRBImandatedall

banksinIndiatoopenatleast25percentbrachesinruralareas.RBIalsoensurethat
adequatecreditisprovidetoruralareasbyprioritysectorlendingInthisRBIhas
mandatedallbanksincludingforeignbanksworkinginIndiatoprovide40percentof
theirloanstoprioritysectorlikeagriculture,studentloansetc.Ifanybankfound
violatingRBIpolicy,ithaspowertotakeactionagainstit.
RBIdosupervisionfunctionsandregularcheckstoensurethatfinancialhealthof
banksismaintained.RBIensurethatallbanksfollowthegovernmentguidelinesfor
thebankingsector.Ifanybankfoundindulginginactivitiesagainstpeopleinterest
andviolatinggovernmentpolicesRBIcanfinebankincludingprivatebanks.

IRDAwasestablishesin1999bytheIRDAact,1999.Itistheautonomousbody
establishedbyactofparliament.Itaimistoensuregrowthofinsurancesectorin
India.
IRDAwasestablishedassoleauthoritytoregulatetheinsuranceindustryinIndia,to
ensurethegrowthofinsuranceindustryandprotecttheinterestofpolicyholders.
ForanycompanywanttoworkininsurancesectorneedspriorapprovalofIRDA.It
alsoperformsupervisionfunctionstoensurethatdifferentinsurancecompanies
includingprivatefollowingrulesandregulationsornot.Itcantakeactionagainst
erringcompanies.IRDAworkstoprotecttheinterestofpolicyholderandtoregulate,

theinterestofinvestorinsecurities.Itissoleregulatorforallstockexchangesin
India.SEBIregulatethecapitalmarketsinIndia.IfanycompanywanttobringIPOit
needspriorapprovalfromSEBI.Itisentrustedwithresponsibilitytoprotectthe
interestofinvestorinstockexchange,ensurethegrowthofsecuritiesmarket
,regulateanddevelopacodeofconductforintermediariessuchasbrokers,
underwriters,etc.

toconductinspectionofStateCooperativeBanks(SCBs),CentralCooperativeBanks
(CCBs)andRegionalRuralBanks(RRBs)andprotectinterestofthepresentand
futuredepositorandalsoprovideshortandmediumtermloantothosebanks
