Task 1 Plan and Gantt chart

I am working as a junior apprentice for a record label, which I have joined

straight from college. The record label has requested that I produce a
CD/DVD menu for an existing artist to showcase my production and
designing skills.
The first task is to produce a plan and a Gantt chart for the work we have
to complete in this assignment, in relation to my lesson plan in my digital
diary. I have 12 hours over the course of about 8 lessons to complete this
assignment which is constructed of a total of 7 tasks, I need to examine
the work I have to complete in each task and determine how long each
task will take.

Task 2 will be completed throughout the 12 hours and will be featured in my

digital diary as I create this as I progress throughout the assignment.

Photoshop
I will be using this software to create all of the graphics I will need to
produce the DVD menu; as I have previous experience of using Photoshop
to create various graphics needed for other projects. When I first started
using Photoshop, I was often confused as to how various tools within the
programme worked. However as I have spent more and more time on
Photoshop, my skills have developed to a good, almost professional,
standard.

Photoshop does allow the user to save files in different formats if it is

required. This is good as I cant save it as a standard Photoshop file, as it
is not compatible with Macromedia Director. The file I will need to save it
as is a PNG, as Director does accept this file format, so I will be able to use
graphics I have created in Photoshop if I save them as a PNG.
Director
Macromedia Director will be the software in which I will be creating my
project in. I have used Director before and am more than capable of
building a product from scratch to a professional standard. Not only am I
competent when using Director as I have past experience, but Director
itself is a fairly simple and easy to use piece of software.
Director is able to embed interactive multimedia into a product that the
user is creating. This makes the software ideal for the interactive DVD/CD
menu that I am going to design. Also, all types of assets (sound, text and
images) can be imported into Director, meaning that I am able to create
all my own assets, or import ones from the internet, and transfer all assets
into Director ready for me to use, and to start piecing together my final
product.

Excel
I will be using excel to create the Gantt chart which I will be producing for
task 1, Excel allows me to create an organised spreadsheet for many
purposes. In my case I will use Excel to create a Gantt chart, will I will
use to map out and organise the time that I have to complete this
assignment. It also allows me to dedicate time to specific tasks that I need
to complete before the deadline. Therefore, this means I can track where I
am in relation to the overall assignment and if I need to dedicate more
time to specific tasks, or if I need to catch-up on any tasks.
Word
I will be using word to write a report on the interactive DVD/CD menu that
I will be creating. I have already estimated in my Gantt chart that I will
spend around 2 lessons (3 hours) writing a detailed report on the outcome
of the product, reviewing its success at the end of the project. Word is
ideal for writing this report as it is a simple programme which does not
take any time to learn.

Gantt
This is the Gantt chart which I created in Excel:

Each
task is colour coded, to represent that task. For each single box of colour, this is
the amount of days I will spend on each task. Or, 1 day is equal to 1 and a half
hours.
