THE BOY FROM NAZARETH
ITEMS NEEDED:
Priest costumes
CHARACTER BREAKDOWN: 2M
CHARACTERS:
Hezekiah and Jonah- Priests in the temple of Jerusalem
Hezekiah and Jonah enter, walking across the stage. Jonah is giggling. Hezekiah stops.
Jonah stops.
HEZEKIAH: Will you please stop giggling?
JONAH: Im sorry, Hezekiah. I dont mean any disrespect.
HEZEKIAH: Are you sure about that?
JONAH: Im sorry. Its just
HEZEKIAH: Go ahead, lets hear it.
JONAH: Sir, you know I respect you as a man of God. No one in the temple knows the
Word of God as well as you.
HEZEKIAH: Thank you.
JONAH: But only because that kid went home.
HEZEKIAH: Jonah!

KIDS OF THE BIBLE: JESUS

SKIT
JONAH: Well its true! That boy knew the prophets backwards and forwards. And he
understood them. Ive never heard anyone explain Isaiah like that!
HEZEKIAH: Mere speculation on the part of a clever child, nothing more.
JONAH: I dont think so.
HEZEKIAH: Are you suggesting a mere boy would make a better teacher than me?
JONAH: Well, no. But given time and education
HEZEKIAH: The way you and the others were fawning over him, I wonder what education you could give him.
JONAH: Perhaps we should invite him to study here?
HEZEKIAH: A mere commoner? Hes a carpenters son. Let him learn his fathers trade.
JONAH: But the people could learn so much from him!
HEZEKIAH: Hes just a boy, Jonah. Another five minutes, and Id have proven my superior wisdom and knowledge.
JONAH: Sir, he spoke with us for more than two hours. He was just as competent at
knowing and interpreting the scripture as any of us, including the High Priest. Theres
something special about that kid, Hezekiah. Maybe hes not a priest, but I wouldnt be
surprised if God does something great with him.

THE

OBJECT LESSON OR KIDS SERMON

ITEMS NEEDED:
Popsicles
This lesson can be combined with the take home portion of the lesson. Kids can have
popsicles as an end of the hour treat, or they can take home popsicle sticks.
Does anyone know who invented the popsicle? Popsicles were invented in 1906 by
Frank Epperson. Frank left a mixture of powdered drink, water, and a stirring stick in
a cup on his front porch overnight. It was a very cold night, and when he woke up, he
discovered the frozen treat waiting for him outside. Frank named the treat the Epsicle,
but years later he changed it to popsicle.
Does anyone want to guess how old Frank Epperson was when he did this?
Believe it or not, Frank was only eleven years old!
It just goes to show you that kids can be just as clever and wise as adults. When we
spend time in prayer and reading Gods word, we have access to Gods wisdom. God
can make us wise so we can make good decisions, and he can teach us how to live
godly lives.
Dont let anyone look down on you because you are young. Follow Jesus, spend time
with him every day. God will make you wise beyond your years.

LARGE GROUP GAME

MOVIE TIME
ITEMS NEEDED:
Five movie posters, or five posters with the names of movies on them.
INSTRUCTIONS:
Choose one kid for this game. On stage, display the five movie posters. As an example:
Despicable Me (2010), Beauty and the Beast (1991), Monsters Inc (2001), The Lego
Movie (2014), and Star Wars (1977). The player had 60 seconds to re-arrange the movies in chronological order. Every time they shuffle the posters, tell them how many they
have right. The game ends when they get all five in order - or when time expires.
VARIATION:
For younger kids, let them know which ones are right so they do not reshuffle them.
Use whatever posters you want or have available.
WHATS THE POINT?
God will give us the wisdom we need to make smart choices in our lives.

INTRO
Did you know that some of the most important inventions ever made were created by
kids? Its true! The calculator was invented by Blaise Pascal. Pascal was a very famous
mathematician, but he was only eighteen years old when he designed the first calculator.
Philo T. Farnsworth was only fifteen when he showed his high school science teacher
drawings for an invention. The teacher was impressed, and Farnsworth continued to
work on his invention, a device we know as - the TV!
Louis Braille invented a form of reading for blind people. He was only fifteen when he
did it. Chester Greenfield was only fifteen when he created an invention you all probably use in the winter time - ear muffs!
And lets not forget Joel Siegel and Joe Schuster, a pair of eighteen-year-old artists who
loved science fiction and created a character we know as - Superman!
Each one of these kids had wisdom beyond his years. They didnt wait to put that wisdom to use either. They used it as kids to change the world.
Todays story is about another wise child, one wiser than any of the inventors Ive mentioned. Hes one of the most intriguing kids in the Bible because hes the most important
person in the Bible. This is the story of twelve-year-old Jesus.

READ LUKE 2:41-52
MAIN POINT
Its no surprise that Jesus would have awed the men at the temple. He was only a boy,
but he was also Gods Son. Whatever God knew, he knew, and the men at the temple
could not believe a young boy would know as much as he did.
Sadly, this happens all the time with kids and adults. Kids are kids, and they have wild
and crazy thoughts and often act immature. That said, kids can be very wise and very
observant. Adults often miss out on great leaning moments because theyre not really
listening. What can an adult learn from a kid?
Adults can learn a lot, and kids can teach a lot. Kids can gain wisdom well beyond their
years, just by following Jesus.
DRIVE IT HOME
God has given us an endless source of wisdom. Its called the Bible. In the Bible, God
has shared everything we need to know about who we are and who he is. When we
read the Bible, we gain insight into why the world is the way it is.
The Bible teaches us that we are sinners living in a sinful world. Our natural instinct is
to be sinful and selfish, to do things only for ourselves. Jesus came to die for our sins
and show us a better way to live. Now, we can live for God by serving him and serving
others.
Gods Word also gives us the wisdom we need to make tough choices. Its hard to
stand up for whats right when everyone else is doing the wrong thing. Wisdom will
show you when you need to take a stand and tell others, This is not right. I will not do it
just because everyone else is.
The more time we spend with God in Bible study and prayer, the more wisdom we gain.
Living for God becomes easier not because it is easy, but because we learn to think like
Christ. We think of others instead of ourselves.
The greatest thing we can do to prepare ourselves for a life of service to Jesus is to
begin spending time with him now. Get into the habit of prayer and Bible study while
you are still young, because when you are older, it will only get harder. Grow your relationship with Jesus while you are still young, and you will be strong enough to face the
questions and challenges that come when you are older.
God has given us a source of great wisdom. Hes inviting all of us to share in that
wisdom. Ask God to give you the wisdom his Son had as a child, and let God make you
wise beyond your years.
