Lesson Plan Evaluation & Teaching Reflection
Was the content worth knowing? Support your response.
Yes, the students learned how to use a drill press and scroll saw. Although this information seems
useless this can help the students later in life, this is a good basic skill to have in case they are in
a situation where they need to be abler to use these tools. There are several at home projects and
house renovations where these tools are used. Also, in the high school classes this knowledge is
crucial.
Describe how the activity was developmentally appropriate.
This activity was appropriate because the notes packet was very simple and easy to understand,
which helped the kids follow along while I was talking. Also, when I did the demonstration I had the
kids volunteer and I corrected them if they did something wrong, this helped them to learn hands
on and learn from their classmates.
Give an example of how you know the activity was interesting to the children.
The activity was interesting to the children because they had the chance to be part of the
demonstration. This really kept them intrigued, also the fact that if they werent paying attention
they would not be able to advance on their cars was a good motive too.
Describe how the activity included opportunities for the children to test their knowledge.
The children could test their knowledge by volunteering to operate the machines. Also, after I
finished giving the lesson the kids had a chance to work on their own cars and use the machines
then too.
Describe a follow up activity that would build on concepts you have presented.
Having them practice using the scroll saw and drill press on a block of wood would be helpful, this
would help them to master this skill. Also, there could be safety quiz given to the students before
they tested the machines to make sure they know how to use each of the machines before they
operate them.
What behavior(s) did you observe while presenting the activity? What do you think caused the
behavior(s)?
Almost all of the kids were paying attention, except for two who were messing around. The kids
that were messing around were talked to sternly and they paid attention after that. The kids that
were paying attention were paying attention because they care about their safety and know that
this information is crucial for them to perform well on the project. The kids not paying attention do
not really care about the class and like to try and figure it out on their own.
How did you involve the children in the closure of the activity?
The kids were given work time for the closure activity, so they could put what they just learned to
use.
Describe what changes you would make and what you would keep the same if you presented the
activity again.
If I did this lesson again I would make sure that when I made the relief cuts I made them bigger so
that the kids could see them better. Also I would have liked to incorporate the kids who werent
paying attention as much, this is important information and they need to know it and I wish they
would have paid attention so they could perform well on their projects.
