of the Week
CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RI.K.2:
With prompting and support, identify the main topic and retell key details of
a text.
CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.K.3:
Use a combination of drawing, dictating, and writing to narrate a single event
or several loosely linked events, tell about the events in the order in which
they occurred, and provide a reaction to what happened.
Objectives:
Students will compare what Jasper does during the week with what the students do
during the week.
Materials:
Calendar
Procedure:
1. Anticipatory Set: The teacher will show students the calendar. Tell students that they will be
learning about the days of the week. Ask students if they know some of the names of the
days of the week. Encourage their answers.
2. Teacher will ask students to point at days such as Christmas and to point out their birthdays.
Ask what day their birthdays are on this year and point to the days row at the top of each
month. Start to teach the English words for the days as you discuss their birthdays. Ask what
day it is today.
13. Remind students about some of the activities that Jasper did and have students
look at the index cards on the board to remind them of the spelling of the days of the
week.
14. When students are finished, have each student return to the carpet with their paper.
15. Go around the circle and have each student explain what they do during the week.
Use rubric as a guide to direct each student.
16. Closure: Review what happened in Jaspers Beanstalk. Have students recite days of
the week in order.
Assessment:
Formative: Observe the students as teacher is reading the book to make sure they are
paying attention. Teacher will ask questions during the book to ensure students are
learning. Also, teacher will walk around the classroom to make sure they are using the
days of the week in their Days of the Week Assignment.
Summative: Students must meet the criteria on their drawing and presentation found ion
Jaspers Beanstalk Presentation Rubric in order to receive full credit. Student will
receive a 12/16 score. If a student score below this level, teacher will provide on-on-one
assistance.
Accommodations:
These accommodations will be made for special needs students. If a student struggles
with speaking in front of the class, teacher can increase the amount of personal
assistance for the specific learner (such as assigning partners).
