Reflection
Throughout this semester I have overcome many obstacles, and have definitely grown as
a writer. I have learned so many things this semester, and particularly something I will never
forget is having learned what Ethos, Pathos, and Logos mean and actually applying it properly
into my essays. My writing has improved with the help of my peers, teachers, and tutors. I
corrected my citations, removed unwanted sentences, and added more examples to my writing,
which is something Im really proud of. I seek to continue to improve on my writing while
attending California State University Northridge and hope to apply it to my future writings and
assignments.
The first essay I ever wrote for my 113B course I received a grade that I believe I could
have done better on. My Professor made corrections on my essays and I have taken those
corrections into careful consideration when revising them for the final essay. One thing I added
was, I am a victim of this culture diminishing era. Living in two different cultures allowed me
to view the world from different perspectives of who I really am, I am American born of
Salvadorian decent. When I had my LRC meeting at the Library my professor told me to add a
quote in my thesis that would represent a better picture of what I will be writing about. I see that
his suggestion helped me sound more fluent. As I added things like how culture has shaped
others and has influenced me into coming out more out of my shell. I have also learned how to

correctly format my work-cited pages. As you can see the first time I did not reach the write limit
however, this time around I did so on my revision and wrote more in order to help me receive a
better grade.
In my second essay we had to read a book called Everyday and it talked about how
peoples backgrounds affect the way they think about love and perceive it. I found this topic
hard, because we had to ague why A shows more affection to Rhiannon and why he is a better
partner. It read, he shows up to Justins school and realizes that his new host has a girlfriend,
Rhiannon. On first glance A falls into deep tenderness with Rhiannon however, in this novel, the
affection shown by Justin, her real boyfriend, and A, the spirit baffles Rhiannon, due to the
noticeable difference in motion.
Throughout this whole journey of having to take this English class during my two
semesters in college, Ive definitely grown both as a person and as writer, because Ive become
more confident and have been able to let go more and more in my writings. It was definitely a
challenge at times, coming up with ideas and having writers block. Overall Im proud of the
resilience Ive had, because this English class, has been an experience that has really changed my
life.
