Smoking Effects

LONG TERM:
- cancer of the lung, mouth, nose, larynx, tongue, nasal, sinus, oesophagus, throat,

pancreas, bone marrow, kidney, cervix, ovary, ureter, liver, bladder, vowel, and
stomach.
-ulcers in the digestive system
-poor blood circulation in the feet and hands
-weaker musculoskeletal system and immune system = more susceptive to
infections, increased duration of illnesses, and lowered levels of protective
antioxidants
-reduced bone density
-(maternal smoking, adolescence growth, passive smoking from parents) low initial
birth, higher risk of future heart disease, strokes, high blood pressure, deafness,
diabetes, future obesity, ear infections, respiratory illnesses, SLDS, and
meningococcal disease.
-(passive smoking, inhaled by maternal women) miscarriage
-(passive smoking) asthma attacks and symptoms
-(passive smoking) reduced lung function, increment in risk of bronchitis and
pneumonia
SHORT TERM:
- The reason for the undertaking followed by addiction for smoking, is commonly due

to the relief stress, hunger, and anxiety. However, people are oblivious that smoking
is only relieving your craving for the nicotine (within the cigarette).
- Pleasure and happiness as this drug spikes your heart rate, increases blood pressure in
your brain, and briefly hits the neurotransmitter dopamine, which can cause
psychosis with excess.
-the tightening of muscles resulting in stiff movement
-reduced ability smell and taste
-premature wrinkles
-higher risk in blindness
-gum disease (periodontitis)
-(maternal smoking) increase risk of miscarriage
-mental instability = cigarettes are a short cut to temporary happiness, emotional
issues remain
-anxiety, depression, irritability (withdrawal of nicotine)
-inflammation of the stomach and intestines
