Adams, Gina, and Nicole Oxendine Poersch. Who Cares? State Commitment to Child Care and
Early Education. Young Children 52.4 (1997): 6669. Web The journal today relating to
early education discusses issues of why the state didn't commit to fund for early education
classes. Lower and moderate income households aren't able to afford the care that they need,
therefor they cant have their children attend. studies have shown that thousands of families
are on waiting lists for child care assistance. This article says that since in 1994, states stated
committing to this act. This was a very scholarly article, the writer had a lot of experience
with this subject and was very passionate about what she wrote. This is a very reliable source
to use for our paper, it has plenty of facts and information over our subject.
Collier, Kiah. "Greg Abbott signs priority pre-K bill." Austin American-Statesman (TX) 29 May
2015: Texas Reference Center. Web. 19 Apr. 2016. The article is about Greg Abbot signing
HB 4 in to law on May 29. HB 4 is about the state providing money for early education for

2
low income families or military families, the law grants 130$ million to require participating
school districts to abide by certain teacher certification requirements and to provide
everything that will be needed for Pre-k schooling. Other bills that Abbott passed was Senate
Bill 934, creating training academies for kindergarten through 3rd grade mathematics
teachers. Senate Bill 935, creating a reading excellence team pilot program. And lastly,
Senate 972 which is creating trainmen academies for 4th and 5th grade reading teachers. This
article is very useful for our paper because it is scholarly because it is factual, and shows that
our governor cares about not just early education but all education and how important it is.
Happo, I., Mtt, K., & Uusiautti, S. (2013). How do early childhood education teachers
perceive their expertise? A qualitative study of child care providers in lapland, Finland. Early

s10643-012-0551-8. What went on in the small country of Lapland, Finland. Many teachers
propounded to do is they wanted to get together to provide a better educationally foundation
for their country. The theory that drove many teachers In Finland to take upon this quest is
that they want a better correspondence of education. the teachers of Finland and our group
solemnly believe that early education in a childs life will give him/her more of a chance to
succeed. The author made this article scholarly because this is real and that we can learn from
and not make mistakes or change up things that Texans would like more.
Martinez, Monia. House Bill 4 and High-Quality Prekindergarten Programs. Texas Education
Agency (TX) 5 August 2015: Web. This website is dedicated to explaining the importance of
early childhood education. How getting our children a head start in pre-kindergarden will
advance their education to the next level. It addresses the House Bill 4 and what it stands for,

3
in regards to supporting and defending the early childhood eduction. It states that it will
award grants to certain people who follow through with completing a number of tasks. Which
I don't necessarily agree with. I think that education especially early elementary school
should be provided regardless of finical funds. A child's education is the foundation of his
early life and will only continue to grow. Hindering a child because he doesn't have the
financial funds only sets back the bar further for the under privileged children. Speaking
realistically even if a family were to complete the listed tasks to enter a chance to be granted
a grant the chances are slim. An family shouldn't have to gamble on there son or daughters
education. I think they should take the high quality grant program away and focus on what
the bill really stands for. Which is a child's education and the importance of it, the earlier the
better. There is no time where any child should not take the chance to learn or grown in their
intelligence.
Great Schools Staff. 10 good reasons your child should attend preschool. Great kids. Web.
Many people are unaware of the great benefits sending a child to preschool can bring. Along
with academic benefits, preschool is a great place for children to learn how to function in
society. This extra year of school helps children learn an abundance of behavioral skills. In
preschool, children are given the opportunity to learn how to share, use their imagination,
and expand their vocabulary. At this age, learning comes most easily through make-believe
play time. This playtime can help encourage the growth of cognitive skills and connect the
dots between imaginary play and real life events and functions. For example, when a child
plays house they can learn how to put things away and clean up after themselves. When a
child sings songs in class, they are typically learning the alphabet or how to count. When

4
they play with puzzles they are learning simple problem solving skills noticing patterns. All
in all, preschool gives children the opportunity to develop their social skills and early
academic skills so they can be well prepared for the more structured learning environment of
kindergarten.
