Whatistheteacherdoing?
Whenstudentsareconductingresearchpriortothefieldtrip,theteacherwillbewalkingaround
theroomandmonitoringstudents,ensuringtheyarecollectingvalidinformation.Whenat
PuuhonuaOHonaunau,theteacherwillberesponsibleforthesafetyandsecurityoftheentire
class.Lastly,whenstudentsarewritingtheirjournalentries,theteacherwillagainbewalking
aroundtheroommonitoringstudentswork.
Differentiation:
Studentswithphysicalimpairmentswillbeallowedtotypetheirjournalentriesonacomputer,
ratherthanhandwritingthem.Additionally,theteacherwillreadaloudalldirectionsto
accommodatestudentswithvisualimpairments.
Summary:
AfterengagingstudentsthroughashortvideoclipandcompletingaKWHLchart,studentswill
conductresearchonPuuhonuaOHonaunauandparticipateinawalkingtouratthesite.After
theirtriptothenationalpark,studentswillwritejournalentriespretendingtobeintheshoesofa
Hawaiianlawbreaker.TheyaretowriteaboutwhatlifeislikeatPuuhonuaOHonaunauandto
describesomeoftheirexperiences.
