Maslow Hierarchy Theory

Maslow
Hierarchy
Need
proposed
by
Abraham
Maslow. It is a theory of
human Motivation.

Maslow's hierarchy of need

Physiological needs are the physical requirements
for human survival. If these requirements are not
met, the human body cannot function properly
and will ultimately fail.
Air, water , food , shelter , clothing etc. are
physiological needs

Maslow's hierarchy of need

With their physical needs relatively satisfied, the
individual's safety needs take place and dominate
behavior.
Safety and Security needs include:
Personal security, Financial security, Health and
well-being ,Safety net against accidents/illness
and their adverse impacts

Advantages of Maslow
Theory
The model is too simple
This theory provides a useful summary of
human needs, which can beused in
product
design,
product
positioning,
pricing (e.g. need forpower & status), and
retail outlets designs.
It also helps marketers to focus their
advertising appeals on specificneeds
shared by a large segment of their target
market.

Disadvantages of Maslow
Theory
The
major
problem
with
Maslow's
hierarchy-of-needs theory is that itcannot
be tested empirically there is no way to
measure preciselyhow satisfied one level
of need must be before the next higher
needbecomes operative.
The model is too culture-bound: it lacks
validity across differentcultures and the
assumptions of the hierarchy may be
restricted toWestern cultures.
