To equip students in the Orlean Bullard Beeson School of Education with


resources and support as well as professional development and leadership
opportunities
To provide students in the Orlean Bullard Beeson School of Education with
networking opportunities and connections to preservice students in their
major and inservice education professionals
To ease the transition from college to professional career for
students in the Orlean Bullard Beeson School of Education

Meetings

Meetings will be held twice each year -- October and March


Special meetings may be called by the officers or faculty advisors.
All members will be notified of special meetings at least five days in
advance

In addition to semester meetings each fall and spring term, the ASCD
student chapter will host a professional development event in
conjunction with assistance from the Learning League, Education
Leadership Team, that will be open to all Samford alumni and current
graduate and undergraduate students as well as education/ human
development professionals in the Birmingham area.

Duties of the
Officers

President
Prepare the meeting agenda and lead the
meetings

Submit an annual report to ASCD


Headquarters
Provide ASCD Headquarters with any
changes of the student chapter
membership list, faculty advisor, and
constitution
Vice President
Aid the president in their responsibilities
Fill in for the president at meetings and
events the president is unable to attend
Register with the Office of Student Life
each year

Secretary
Record attendance at all
meetings
Keep records/minutes of each
meeting
Treasurer
Collect dues from every chapter
member

Election of the
Officers

Only active members will be


allowed to run for office
Officers will be elected by
majority vote at the March
meeting
There will be an officer transition
week following the date of
election

Initially, the chapter will not require


any additional funding outside of
annual membership dues.

Funding

If future needs arise for promotional


materials or professional
development events, the treasurer
will make requests for SGA funding
or a chapter fundraiser will be
initiated.

Conclusion

ASCD will provide Samfords teacher education and human development


majors with many resources and opportunities.
These resources and opportunities will equip future teachers and family life
educators with resources and provide support while at Samford and will
impact the learning and education experiences of future students and
clients.
