Function The Simos 2P control unit for the fuel injection and ignition system is equipped with a fault memory in which data relating to the type of fault are stored If faults occur in the monitored sensors or compo- nents, these are stored in the fault memory with data relating to the type of fault The stored faults can be output as stated in the instructions => page 01-6. The contents of the fault memory have to be erased after rectifying faults => page 01-19 Information relating to a fault which affects the ope- ration of the lambda control, can only be interro- gated after conducting a road test lasting at least 10 minutes. Faults which are attributable to temporary open Circuits in the wiring or loose contacts, are also stored, These so-called short-time faults (sporadic faults) are displayed with /SP" and are automati- cally erased from the memory if they do not reoccur within the next 40 engine starts. Notes: The description which follows retates only to the vehicle system tester V.A.G 1552 using programme card 2.0. Use of the fault reader V.A.G 1551 is similar (with the exception of minor differences - a different readout in display and the possibility of using the integrated printer etc). For ending self-diagnosis or for shifting to a diffe- rent address word, select function 06 ,Ending out- put, If the battery has been disconnected, it is neces- sary to carry out the basic setting or to switch on the ignition for 10 seconds after re-connecting the battery (basic setting of the throttle valve takes place during this time).
