Market gained 1.46% WoW with positive news

Colombo bourse exhibited continuous signs of recovery for the fourth consecutive week this month as we saw investor interest gradually building up on risky
assets. Investor sentiments were further strengthened during the week as (1)
the Central Bank decided to keep the key interest rates steady on Tuesday (2)
Sri Lankan government successfully reached a three year deal to borrow USD
1.5bn from the IMF which we believe will be a key catalyst to rebuild both local
and foreign investor confidence. The benchmark ASPI gained 93.61 points
WoW while S&P SL20 too climbed up 39.71 points WoW.
Interest continued on ASIR and TESS.N
Interest continued on healthcare sector counter ASIR with the stock reaching its
52 week high during the week. A notable foreign buying was witnessed on the
counter and we believe this is due to the impressive performance of the hospital during FY 2016E and the resilient nature of Sri Lankan healthcare industry.
ASIR closed LKR 1.70 higher WoW at LKR 28.20. Low valued counter TESS.N was
also seen trading actively during the week following a news on a likely lifting of
fish ban to EU. A total of 6.5mn shares traded during the week with the stock
closing LKR 0.10 lower. Turnover wise JKH contributed the highest to this
weeks turnover with a contribution of ~10% followed by DIST and COMB at
~8% and ~4% respectively.
Average daily turnover at LKR 731mn
Turnover for the week amounted to LKR 3.66bn posting an average daily turnover of LKR 732mn, up from last weeks average of LKR 640mn. Negotiated
deals amounted to LKR 868mn contributing ~24% to the weeks turnover. Foreign investors became net buyers, reversing last weeks trend to record a net
foreign inflow of LKR 150mn during the week.
