Defensive Scouting Weekly Checklist

1. What personnel groupings will we see and what formations do they create in
each group?
2. What are their shifts and motions in each set?
3. What personnel groups will they use in shotgun sets?
4. What personnel groups will they use in empty sets?
5. Do they flip flop their line?
6. Do they use any unbalanced formations?
7. How will we determine strengths versus all sets?
8. Do they signal plays in or use players to take them in?
9. What are the three run plays we must stop?
10. What options, if any, must we defend?
11. Are there certain linemen that give us good pass-run keys?
12. Do line splits dictate run/pass?
13. Do they use three-step and five-step in their drop-back game?
14. What is their play action game? Boot? Sprint Outs? Screens?
15. What type of pass protection do they use? Drop back? Play action?
16. Do they have a go to receiver that we need to double? Where does he line up
versus doubles & trips?
17. Does the quarterback handle pressure well and what do they like to check to
if they see pressure coming?
18. What first down plays do they like after a turnover?
19. What is their red zone offense?
20. Have we seen any two-point plays?
21. What is their favorite short yardage play action pass, third and short, fourth
and short?
22. What is their waste down pass game (second and 1)?
23. What is their hail-mary formation?
24. What are the gimmick plays?
