different disability. They must provide 3 different suggestions as to how to make
adaptations to accommodate their needs.

Qualitative Assessment

(Assessment determining if students know how to write a lesson plan with adaptations for 5
students in need of accommodations. Students are asked to come up with three examples for
each student, and include it in their lesson plan write up.)

1. In chart 14.3 (on page 557 of your psych textbook) you read an example of a
student with an IEP. The student, Curt, had difficulty with controlling his anger and
complying with teacher requests. Teachers identified some of his social needs which
included managing his anger (specifically swearing), learning to comply with teachers,
and avoid acts of violence when aggravated. What are three ways in which you would
adapt the lesson to accommodate his needs? (2 Points)
2. There is a student in class with Attention Deficit Disorder. This student, Ryan, has
a hard time paying attention in class. The teacher has tried talking with Ryan about this
issue, but he cant stay focused on his readings or his assignments for longer ten
minutes without giving up or turning his focus elsewhere. What are three ways in which
you would adapt your lesson to accommodate Ryan's behavior? (2 Points)
3. A student has just recently joined your class and you have learned that they have
a hearing impairment. Your lesson for the day was going to be mainly lecture with
minimal presentation slides. Give three ways in which you would change and adapt this
lesson plan to accommodate your new students needs. (2 Points)
4. A student named Tim has fallen asleep in your class nearly every day this week.
He has a very hard time engaging with the material in class, but you have recently found
that implementing learning tools and technology seem to help him stay focused. What
are three examples of technology tools you could use to assist this students learning
within your lesson plan (in your given subject area)? (2 Points)
5. Paul is a very shy student who does not like to speak out during class or work
with other students. Recently, you had planned to assign group projects in which
students would work together and present on specific habitats. What are three ways you
could adapt this project to make it easier to this student to do their best and participate?

disability; Student 1 is confined to a wheelchair, Student 2 cannot read, and Student 3
has ADHD.
