helped me feel comfortable in 600 lab

practicing certain methods
Learning about these methods seemed
somewhat ironic to me because we
stress so much that each child is unique
Learned
about
our
classmates
educational history which was insightful
to see common themes in what was
important in each of ours education
Did not discuss much about text and
practicum, I would have liked to discuss
practicum to make the most of my time
at practicum
We briefly learned about interventions
and measurements, I would have liked
to learn more about this

to have gone through so many changes over

the last few years. It was eye opening to see
the reality of what schools are going through.
We have not talked much about budgets or
priority
The teacher I have been assigned to has been
extremely helpful. She was open in sharing
her thoughts and experiences as a teacher
and with school counselors. She has been my
go to for insight and questions about
students.
I have not really tutored a student
academically but I have regularly spoken with
students in my master-teachers classroom
about academics.
Watching Danielle work is inspiring she is
constantly moving and being proactive. I am
glad I am in a program that has put so much
effort in to selecting practicum sites for us.
Did not do

I have observed both seventh and eighth

grade classes and have not observed much
difference other than the size of the students.
The curriculum had a few more expectations
along with more complex instructions.
We were able to meet the admin team and
interview one administrator. The admin team
has been helpful in making us feel welcome
and responsible for doing our work, which has

helped me learn first hand.
Shadow/interview/observe special
education personnel (e.g., RSP
teacher, SDC teacher, speech
therapist)
Shadow/interview/observe
personnel who address biologically
based issues (e.g., nurse, OT, PT,
APE teacher)
Shadow/interview/observe teachers
who address needs of English
language learners (e.g., bilingual,
ESL, ELD teachers)
Shadow/interview/observe an
administrator at the school

Shadow/interview/observe noncertificated personnel (e.g.,

secretary, custodian, bus driver,
aide, security)
Observe student-focused school
meeting (e.g., SST, IEP, 504)
Observe and/or co-facilitate (with
professional SC) individual & group
counseling sessions
Observe guidance curriculum in the
areas of academic, career or
personal/social development
(Consider ASCA Core Curriculum
Action Plan)
(SDSU Practicum, 2012-2013)

I have shadowed and interviewed a special

education teacher during her math period. I
have appreciated her conversations and
assistance with my questions
I have not shadowed/interviewed/observe
personnel who address biologically based
issues
I have observed a teacher who addresses
needs of ELL students. She has allowed me to
observe and converse with her students a few
time throughout the trimester.
Interviewed an administrator. He gave us
insight on the ins and outs of his role and his
expectations of himself. He also talked to us
about the admin, counselor relationship.
We have interviewed a custodian. He was
very helpful and insightful. I speak with him
regularly when I see him.
I have not observed a meet

I have worked with individuals and groups but

I do not thing it would be considered a
counseling session.
I believe I have observed the guidance
curriculum used by my site supervisor.

Required Activity
Reflection on & Self-Evaluation of this Activity
e.g., highlight your strengths/weaknesses
Observe school governance
meetings (e.g., site council, faculty
meetings, committee meetings,
school board)
Carry an individual counseling load
(at least ten students once/week
for five weeks)

Co-Facilitate (with SC supervision)

a topic-focused counseling group
for a minimum of 6-8 sessions; a
group must have at least 5
students (Consider ASCA Small
Group Action Plan).

(SDSU Practicum, 2012-2013)

Observed two site council meetings one led

by the School Counseling team at Potter Jr.
High School. Amazing to see dynamics of
admin, parents, students, counselors, and
teachers.
This was my favorite thing throughout the
semester, to meet with my students. Carrying
the caseload gave me real skills in counseling
theories. It made sense of everything I have
been learning in my courses. It was amazing
to see the students progress throughout the
year and develop their academic and social
skills.
Another great experience, my students went
from not taking school serious to motivating
each other to develop their academic skills.
They began applauding each other for
academic success. It was a great way to apply
what I was learning in class.

Observe process of how school
determines student placement in
classes in next grade level for
upcoming year.
Develop, implement, and evaluate
an intentional guidance activity in
one of the following areas:
academic, career, or
personal/social development
(Consider ASCA Results Report)
Continue monitoring academic
progress of case study student
(from 622A) and evaluating
effectiveness of interventions.
Modify interventions if needed.

I observed a meeting with the math

department where they discussed classes for
the next year and where certain groups of
students may be placed. I also got to
interview incoming 7th graders for AVID.
Gave presentations on Career,
College/academic, and social emotional
development. I was able to give some
presentations multiple times which assisted
me in my ability to give an engaging
presentation. We also evaluated presentations
by counting pre/post test data.
Continued monitoring academic progress of
multiple students throughout the school year.
Evaluated interventions and modified them
throughout the year. It was great to see the
students end on mostly high notes.

Conduct parent conference with at

least two of the students on your
caseload to discuss students
academic progress
