The article entitled Racial Profiling started off by first defining what racial profiling is
which is the contentious practice that is sometimes adopted by police and other law enforcement
agencies of focusing investigations on individuals selected only on the basis of their racial
characteristics. Throughout the article the author is explaining what racial profiling is and how it
starts. When one race or group is targeted by law enforcement for the way that they look, they
may become weary of them and learn to dislike them because of how they were treated before.
When police or law enforcement do racial profiling some may call it DWB-driving while
black.
The article gets its point across very well; though it could have been more in depth. I
believe more examples could have been used when explaining how racial profiling has affected
many people. More facts and statistics could have been used when explaining how black men
have been unfairly stopped and pulled over by racial profiling.
With this source I will be using it when defining what racial profiling is as well as when I
include what DWB is and how it came to be in the United States. I will also read more into
what racial profiling is, so not only using this as a source but finding other sources to support my
argument. There is a report mentioned in the article called Protecting Civil Rights: A Leadership

Guide for State, Local, and Tribal Law Enforcement I will use this to further explain the changes
being made to stop or lessen the amount of incidents involving racial profiling.
The article entitled Police Brutality started off defining police brutality; all acts of
unjustified cruelty inflicted by police on others. It then goes on to list some examples of police
brutality which include, but are not limited to: abusive language, physical violence and verbal or
physical force. Police brutality has been a problem in the United States for a while now. Starting
in the nineteen sixties during the civil rights movement and up until today there is still a problem
with it. It became a national focus when many cases went public, starting with Rodney King who
was assaulted by four Los Angeles police officers during a traffic stop. It then goes on a names
more minority men who were affected by police brutality in the United States.
The article does a very good job at explaining what police brutality is with different
examples and kinds of it. It also does a good job with explain the different cases of police
brutality, not giving too many, but just the right amount. Although it could go more in depth
about when in the civil rights movement it started and how it was back then compared to the two
thousands. One more thing that can be included is how the effected communities came together
in lieu of the different attack and fought to make a change about police brutality.
I will be using this article when I explain how police brutality effects the black race in
America. I will use the example of Rodney King as well as finding other examples. The
definition of police brutality will also be used in the paper as well as the examples and different
forms of police brutality. The findings of how New York, Columbus and New Orleans were
investigated for police misconduct will also be used and the changes made to the various
departments to fix these particular changes.
