Overview:
The Phase 1B Infrastructure works comprised construction of an adoptable highway and
associated drainage and lighting as well as associated earthworks and retaining walls,
installation of a flood bund around an existing allotment and creation of flood alleviation
areas (swales and ponds). These works included significant earthworks re-profiling and
raising the land to created development platforms for mixed residential and commercial
end use.
The site had been subjected to a series of potentially contaminative historical industries
including mills, sewage works, dye works and land filling. A number of potential features
of archaeological interest, mainly bridges, former mill buildings and industrial activities
had been identified on and around the site.
Geo-environmental Scope of Works:

UA Antia (UK) Ltd designed and produced the following contract documents and permits
for regulatory approval prior to the enabling works commencing.
Remediation Strategy and Implementation Plan,
Earthworks Specification,
Construction Environmental Monitoring Plan,
Materials Management Plan (MMP),
Surface Water Management Plan,
Yorkshire Water Discharge Consent and
Environment Agency Flood Defence Consent.
UA Antia (UK) Ltd provided full time supervision and maintained verification records to
ensure that the works were completed in accordance with the enabling works
specifications and Employers Requirements.
Remediation and earthworks activities included.

Gap Investigation entailing formation of trial pits and window sample probe
holes.
Ground Radar Survey.
Archaeological Survey.
Bathymetric survey.
Delineation and excavation of hotspots.
Systematic excavation, segregation and screening of made ground
materials to remove oversize brick and concrete which was subsequently
crushed for reuse as bulk fill and capping.
Bulk Earthworks and compliance testing including soil modification and
reprofiling of an existing landfill impacting the site.

Importation and compliance testing of


Soil and groundwater contamination compliance testing.
Post remediation ground gas monitoring and risk assessment.
Flood alleviation works involving construction of a flood attenuation pond,
headwalls, spillway, piled garden wall and widening of the River Calder
channel bisecting the site

UA Antia (UK) Ltds final brief was to produce and submit a remediation verification
report and an earthworks validation report for acceptance and approval by the
regulatory authorities.
