ELEMENTARY RHYTHM AND DANCE LESSON PLAN
GRADE LEVEL & NUMBER OF STUDENTS: 1st, 30
TIME: 20-30 minutes
EQUIPMENT: Boom box and music cd
OBJECTIVES:
1. The student will be able to move rhythmically and learn simple dance moves.
2. The student will be able to correctly perform the steps of the dance thus helping the brain learn to see
patterns.
3. The student will show consideration for others in a variety of situations.
CALIFORNIA K-5 DANCE:
Part 1. Introductory Activity: 1.1 Demonstrate an awareness of personal space, general space, and
boundaries while moving in different directions and at high, medium, and low levels in space.
Part 2. Lesson Focus: 1.4 Change direction from forward and back and right and left in response to tempos,
rhythms, and signals while walking, running, hopping, and jumping (i.e., loco-motor skills).
1.22 Create or imitate movement in response to rhythms and music.
Part 3. Closing Activity: 3.7 Sustain continuous movements for increasing periods of time while participating
in moderate to vigorous physical activity.
