Lesson Title: Learning My Day


Lesson Type: Academic
Topic: Time Management
Population Served: 2nd Grade
Goal of Lesson: 2nd grade students will become more aware of how they spend their time.
ASCA Standards Measured:
- A:A- students will acquire the attitudes, knowledge, and skills that contribute to effective
learning in school across the life span.
- A:A2.1 Apply time-management and task-management skills
- PS:B- Students will make decisions, set goals, and take necessary action to achieve goals.
IMPORTANT: This lesson should only be taught once students have had time to practice and
master telling time using clocks.
Materials Needed: Worksheets, Clock, 2nd Grade class schedule.
Evaluation: Completed school day schedules in class and completed home schedules returned.
Lesson Plan:
- Personal introduction
- Introduction/Expectations Today we will be learning about scheduling.
- Write schedule on the board and ask does anyone know what a schedule is?
- Pass out worksheet
- Ask the class to name some things they have done today
o Write their responses on the board
Make sure they include sleeping, eating, leisure time.
o Ask them how much time they think they spend doing each thing
Is there enough time? Does it go over 24 hours?
If we want to do all of these things but only have so many hours in the day
how do we decide which things to do
o Look at the list, which of these things are the most important
Differentiate between what we want to do and need to do
o Ask class what things do you need to do?
Mark those items off
o Ask class what things do you like to do?
Mark those items off
- Ask them to flip over their worksheet
o Tell them to look at the section marked 8:30 am
- Guide them through the schedule to help show them what they do every day in school
- Discuss the importance of the schedule for
o Have time to cover all the different subjects
o Have time to eat lunch/ play at recess
o Have time to organize belongings/pack up before buses arrive
- Provide instructions for Homework
o Keep track of what you do after school today/before school tomorrow

o Ask parents for help if you have questions about completing the rest of your
schedule
Wake up, eat breakfast, watch TV, do homework, play with friends, get on
bus
o This assignment is to be signed and returned to school to be checked for
completion
