Reframing Classroom Rules

First of all, the teacher should let the students create and choose their
classroom rules so they can feel comfortable with, rather than just giving
them commands. Thats why I reframe the rules with using the word we.
Positive rules explain what students should be doing. Negatively stated
rules simply tell students what to avoid. The teacher should repeat the
classroom rules until they become routines.

Classroom rules

Reframe using
positive language

Opportunities to
teach these rules.
(both observed and
ideas of your own)

Dont throw dirty in the

classroom.

We care about our

environment.

Involve the students

physically in cleaning
the classroom in first
days in order to teach
them that the
classroom is like their
second home, and
discuss them what will
happen if they do not
keep the classroom
clean and tidy.

No toys and games

when the teacher is
teaching.

We know to balance
play and work.

Let them role-play

scenarios. Allow them
be the teacher while
you play the part of a
student. So you will
play with toys and do
not be attention, the
child will get upset after
that he/she will realize
that this is a bad
behavior and never do
it.

Dont shouting the

answers.

We raise our hands to

answer.

The teacher
encourages the
students who raise
their hands and the
students who shout the
answers the teacher
can say for them: i
cant listen to you! And
put her hands on her
ears until they raise

their hands.

Dont be selfish.

We help each other.

The teacher may

cooperate with
students in some
activities in order to
promote the spirit of
cooperation in them
and explain for them
how important is to
help people even
outside the classroom.

Dont use disrespectful We respect others.

comments.

The best way to teach

respect is to show
respect. When a child
experiences respect,
they know what it feels
like and begin to
understand how
important it is.

No talking out of turn.

Ask the students to

show how to ask a
question or talk in their
turn or how to get up to
turn in work, make
them prove they
understand the rule.

We listen when
someone else is
talking.
