Reflection 3

Answer the following questions, as part of Reflection 3:

Why do you think it's important for teachers to manage transitions

effectively?
How does this help students? How does this help the teacher?
What have you learned about managing transitions during this TP
experience? What questions do you still have?

On Tuesday, March 1 , 2016, I observed KG 1 when the

students moving from the carpet after the morning time to
the centers. The students were excited to play and do
several activities in each center. The teacher used
different group's names to separate the students in
specific 5 groups. For me, the most significant experience
was when the teacher managed the transition effectively.
She keeps the classroom so organized during the whole
day. I think the management of transitions is so significant
because it contributes to control the risks and to avoid any
misbehaviors and the most important point is that to make
sure each student will change to each center to do
different activities during the lesson. The teachers have a
several ways to manage transitions effectively. For
instance, some use bell sound to make the class organized
that no students move to other centers before the bell
rings. Also, some teachers manage transitions by clapping
their hands, play a song. That it helps the teacher to save
the time and dont be confused about each student that
all of them will go to the centers and learn more about
the discipline in the classroom . Also, it helps the students
to be very comfortable and dont do any misbehavior or
noisy and pay attention with teacher warning while the
transitions. They will learn more because they will do
different activities in the centers. I learned how to use bell
sound to manage transitions during 3 days with my MST
and it worked well . Then I tried to do it without my MST
and I really like it because the students were so organized
durig transitions and focused on what is the next center
for them to have more fun.

Reflection 4
On Wednesday, March 16, 2016, during teaching practice
when I was in the class with my mentor school teacher,
there was an active student during carpet time. He was so
excited to answer each question from the teacher while
morning time. The teacher asked the students to the date
and the weather and letter in the word of them. Also, he
shows a lovely way when he respects other students and
listens to their answers and he doesnt interrupt them
when he knows the answer. However if some students
dont know the answer he raises his hand to say the
answer. For me, the most meaningful learning was how
the teacher will reward that active student. At the time, I
knew that student is high level and the teacher will reward
him. In the end of the carpet time, the teacher gave a nice
sticker to the student who was active with her. Equally,
this could be explained by Skinner Watson theory.
Specifically, Skinner defines operant conditioning with
reinforcing stimulus in positive reinforcement. Moreover,
when the student got the sticker from the teacher that like
a positive reinforcement (reward). He will repeat that good
behavior or that condition. Having learned that theory I
now think it is so important to reward the students to
encourage them and to help their learning and to reinforce
their confidence or their feeling to share comfortably with
the teacher.
