Hunger Around the World Final Paper

Hunger is one of the greatest problems in the world. Not only in the US but in many
other countries. Nearly one in nine people worldwide are chronically undernourished, and 3.1
million children younger than 5 die of malnutrition each year. However, there are signs that
things may be getting better. One of the best reasons is the people that live in poverty cannot
afford nutritious food for themselves and their families. This makes them weaker and less
able to earn the money that would help them be less hunger, when children are chronically
malnourished, is hard for them to concentrate. They may have to cultivate crops without the
tools and fertilizers they need. Others have no land or water or education. In short, the poor
are hungry and their hunger traps them in poverty.

When you go to any super market you will see that junk food is not even one half
as expensive as the healthy food. It’s not easy seen that a lot of kids are passing through
hunger and actually seen their families trying their best to find food or a way for them to eat
healthy but the amount of financial help isn’t enough and it won’t even last 2 weeks. I think
that the government should try to not just give healthy food in school for children, but try to
create some program that will help those kids to have something to eat when they are not in
school. Let’s say they create a program where all the super markets donate some fruits,
vegetables and more kind of foods, they can offer them to the families in need who don’t

have enough money assistance from the government, or the money that they get working
isn’t enough at least they would take advantage of that program and the kids will feel way
better because they will be eating healthier and they won’t spend days without eating.

The 10 hungriest countries in the world and their percentage. They give a good
explanation about how each country suffers from undernourishment. It starts from Burundi
73.4%, Eritrea 65.4%, Comoros 70%, Timor Leste 38%, Sudan 25%, Chad 33.4%, Yemen
Republic 32.4%, Ethiopia 40.2%, Madagascar 33.4%, Zambia 47.4%.
Children population is one of the most affected ones in the world, about 15.3
million children lived in food-insecure households in 2014. Twenty percent or more of the
child population in 38 states and D.C. lived in food insecure households in 2013, according
to the most recent data available. The District of Columbia (31%) and Mississippi (29%) had
the highest rates of children in households without consistent access to food. Good nutrition,
particularly in the first three years of life, is important for establishing a good foundation that
has implications for a child’s future physical and mental health, academic achievement, and
economic productivity.

During this project I learned a lot about hunger and how everything is changing during
time. More plans are created to help those who can’t afford food and also to those who live in
complete poverty where they can’t even afford to eat an apple. Now days it doesn’t matter where you
live youll still see hunger people in the streets. I like the fact that some schools offer free lunch to
students because that’s one way that we can contribute a little be to this great problem. Hunger causes
that kids pay less attention in classes and they get bad grades or they won’t be paying attention during
the lessons.
In my opinion I think that every country should have a program were people donate food
instead of money. I think that money can be useful for somethings but food is one of the things that
kids will be more than happy to see. For example, there is this famous Food Fights, while we are
playing and throwing food away, there are millions of people that are dying just to have one third of
the food that we have. It’s really sad to see that us as humans don’t do anything to help them and that
we don’t come with a great idea like creating a little house for kids that don’t have food and we can
actually go ahead and give them free food. I know that in the future I’ll be able to help them out not
just to be healthy but to have a place to stay and learn like regular kids do.
