Animal Cloning: Safe or Not Safe

Animal cloning seems cr:azy andfuturistic but cloning possible

is
and safe. Lots of people
think that cloning animals is dangerous and harmful
to the animal. What they don,t know is cloning
is not harmfulto.the animalat alland has been
done many times. cloning has a wide variety of

techniques "There are three different types of artificialcloning:

gene cloning, reproductive cloning and
i'::
therapeutiqdoning" (NIH). There are many myths
of cloning gone wrong but they are only myths.
.

Do you belLve that cloning is dangerous and

harmfulto the animar cloned or do you think that
it is

safe and unharmful?

There is a myth out there stating that offspring
of clones are clones as well and they grow
weaker and weaker along the line' This is not true,
clones babies are just regular.animals not
clones' Most of cloning takes place by way of artificial
insemination, lt is also common to produce
clones with sexual reproduction' These techni{ues
are natural and not harmfulto the animal in
any way' Animals cloned using these techniques
are healthy and live just as long as a normal

animalthat hasn't been cloned.

Another false myth states when ctones are born
they are the same age and'the animal
they were cloned from and don't live a full life.
This is false, clones are born as babies just like
any
other animal' The clone resembles the animal
it is cloned after from birth to death. cloned
animals
live a long and healthy life just tit<e anv other
animal, Clones are healthy animals born as babies
that live there expected rifetime without any
major probrems.

There have been many animals cloned by a technique called embryo splitting.
ln 1g7g, the
first attempt of embryo splitting was used on a mice.'Researchers split
the mice embryo,s in a test
tube and then implanted the resulting embryos into adult female mice.
The attempt was

'

successful. Another technique researchers use is called somatic cell. Many

animals have been
cloned successfully using this techniqug including cats, deer, dogs, horses,
mules, oxen, rabbits,

j'

rats, and a rhesus monkey.

Animalcloning sounds dangerous and harmful but it is a safe practice

used by many
researchers' Many animals have been cloned safely using many
different techniques. There have
been very few cases of cloning being harmful to an animal. For
the most part animal cloning is not

harmful to the animal cloned and it is very safe. Animal cloning

is a wonderful science used safely
by many researchers. croning animars is safe and effective.
