Proposal for Jennifer Miller
Fall 2015 will be the start of my Educational Technology Internship at Loyola University. Over the past year, I have been taking courses to enhance my technology integration skills, gain technology resources, and learn about the role of the technology leader and leading professional development. The goal of our internship is to work with the Elkridge Landing Middle School staff to support them with new technology resources in order to increase effective instruction and student engagement in the classroom. I want to create a culture of risk taking educators that are also innovators in their field. I hope to serve as model this for this and have examples and ways this can happen for the new/non-tenured to the tenured veteran teachers alike. In creating this culture I hope to build intrinsic motivation. Through this intrinsic motivation the teacher looks at positive interactions with students, more time on their hands with students, greater understanding of concepts taught and deeper connections to learning as a reward or an incentive for the Flipped Classroom Model. I would see implementing this model through a three-year integration plan. For the internship I will only focus on the first year of implementation. During the first year a series of three teaching modules will be presented, monthly follow up meetings, and a Google document housing lesson ideas for flipping and a blog where teachers can share their experiences flipping the classroom. I can see needing three classes to get knowledge out to the teachers about the Flipped Classroom Model. The first class would be in introduction to the Flipped Classroom. I would pull in resources in the form of videos and handouts. The second class would be introducing the staff to different tech resources they can use to create interactive videos. There will be the option for teachers to get tutorial on using QuickTime or some other kind of screen casting software. During this class teachers will explore and rate the different interactive video websites. There is then a database created that is shared with the staff so that they have a reference of what each website does. The last class is spent flipping one lesson. After this three series module is over there will be monthly
meetings where teachers will be issued challenges as a way to
continue to flip. I dont want my staff under the impression that Flipping is an all or nothing thing. I believe that flipping in small ways first is a precursor to flipping all material. My goal for the internship is for teachers to implement the flipped classroom model in their classroom. I hope to celebrate the successful technology integrations through improved evaluations. I am open to your suggestions and leadership advice as I pursue my internship this year. Thank you!
