General Learning Outcomes:


Students will demonstrate an understanding of aspects of Aboriginal spirituality and worldviews
Specific Learning Outcomes:
1. develop an understanding of many Aboriginal art forms, oral tradition and literature:
a.
identify and appreciate the diversity of cultural expression of Aboriginal peoples
b. describe the relationship of environment expressed in the art form, oral tradition and literature
of each Aboriginal group
c. compare similarities and differences in expressions of environmental relationships
d.
develop an understanding that Aboriginal art reflects the belief that art is holistic in nature and
is integrated in all aspects of Aboriginal life
e.
compare how Aboriginal oral tradition connects the expression of personal, spiritual, social
and cultural aspects of that individual within the group
f. appreciate Aboriginal philosophy, spirituality and love of land and nature.
Students will:
demonstrate an understanding of key terms and vocabulary

Show understanding about the connection between art, spirituality and storytelling

Provide an artist profile and respond critically to an artwork

Learning Activity One:

Check in have more students complete get to know you while they eat their breakfast

Review from yesterday have students take notes on their big paper label March 8 as heading

Vocab and Graffiti wall using the textbooks and their graphic organizer, students will work on
vocab. Each student must add to the graffiti wall
Break time 10:30 10:35 allow extra few minutes for students to be settled down

Learning Activity Two:

Understanding the importance of art and the artist

Art is vital to culture unique, tells stories, retells events , hopes for the future

Art can take many forms music ,dance, film etc.


Learning Activity Three:

Artist profile
o
Students will be randomly assigned an artist that they are to research and profile. Include
basic info (birth, death or age, where they are from and what First Nations group they are
a member of0
o Style of art they create, symbols/themes that they employ, inspiration for their creation
o List and properly reference Three works by the artist
o Pick 1 work that you havent listed and respond to it in a critical manner.

What story is the artist trying to tell?

How does this make you feel?

Why is this piece significant to their First Nations identity?
