Forthisproject,youwillchooseoneofthefollowingareasofcultural
competenciesinwhichtoimmerseyourself:
ethnicity,religion,gender,sexualityorclass
.In
ateamof

learnasmuchaspossibleaboutthecurrentissuesrelatedtoyour
topicasrelatedtoworkingintheK12environmentandtheschoollibraryinparticular.
Dependingupontheschooloflevelyouaremostinterestedin,yourfinalmainproductbeoneof
thefollowing:2030mininteractiveconferencepresentation(whenusedinreallife,includingall
interactiveexperiencesmightbeanywherefrom45minutestoacoupleofhours,ifdesignedas
aworkshop)websiteofresources/recommendations(includingTEDlikeTalks,podcasts,
voicethreadsetc.createdbygroupmembersthatdelivercontent)unitplanofprofessional
developmentactivities/approachesforteachersothersubstantiveproducttobeimplemented
withteachers,TLs,and/orstudents.

Youcanandshouldbecreativeinconsideringwhatisbest.Ensurethatyourproductclearly
definesthecomplexityoftheculturalcompetency,itshistoryandcurrentchallenges.Your
productshouldincludedemonstrationsandarticulationsofspecificswaysforteachersand/or
TLstoeffectivelybuildawarenessintheirschoolcommunityandmustincludediscrete
interactiveelementsforaudienceengagement(thesecanbebothdigitalandrealtime
opportunities,suchasembeddedvideos,polling,thinkpairshare,surveys,groupdiscussion,
givingyouraudiencetimetowrestlewithandsharecomplexissuesandideas).Besureto
leaveyouraudiencewithplentyofmaterial,includingactionorientedchallengesorqueststo
continuethisimportantlearningandcommunitybuildingwork.

Includeprintanddigitalmaterialsforyouththatarerelatedtotheareayouareexploring,aswell
asresearcharticles,andcurrentculturalcriticismpiecesforadults.Forinstance,ifyouare
focusingonraceandareinterestedinissuesrelatedtocriminaljusticecurrentpieces
regardingrelationshipbetweenpolicingandAfricanAmericans,schooltoprisonpipeline
shouldbeincludedalongwithrecommendedtitlesthatmightaddresstheseissues,suchas
