Students Prior Knowledge:

Students have an understanding of how and why


Australia became involved in the war. Students
have also had a chance to analyse how
propaganda had an influence on the Australian
population during WWI. This week we have been
focusing on the changing role of women,
discussing how they were able to branch out of
their roles as domestic housewife and become
more involved in the workforce.

during WWI

-Make sure all relevant links to websites are working before


class

-Make sure Allan, a student with ASD, is sitting with his


friend and buddy Steve who can help him work through
the PowToon program at a slower pace if necessary.
This is because he hasnt been introduced to it before.

Motivation and Introduction:

Welcome students and take the role

State that today we are going to be making our very own


cartoons

But before we do that, the students have to show me that


they have a great understanding of the changing role of
women during WWI

-Explain that student are to complete the quiz and the fastest
time wins (with all the questions correct) wins a Freddo Frog
-Once students all students have completed this task direct their
eyes back to the front, and present award to who ever won the
task

As a class we watch the explanation/ introduction video for


PowToon

Explain to students that I want them to create a cartoon that


demonstrates and explain the changing role of women during
WWI
After doing this I direct students to return to the Todays Lesson
tab and find the link which leads them to the PowToon website
Have students make their own account and give them Ten
Minutes to explore and have a go at creating their own cartoon
As they are doing this I walk around the class and see how
students are progressing.

Lesson Closure:(Review lesson objectives with students)

Once students have had their ten minutes I ask if anyone


wants to show the class what they have done so far
Hopefully one student volunteers (if not I will ask someone
that I know progressed quite a lot) and get them to display
their work on the projector
I use their work to ask students what they think is good
about their representation of the changing role of women
during WWI to test heir knowledge

Transition: (What needs to happen prior to the next lesson?)

Explain to students that over the weekend they are to


finish their PowToons, which dont have be longer than 1
minute.

Assessment: (Were the lesson objectives met? How will these

Through observation during the class, looking at how the


students progressed

before class to check their understanding and progress
