Grade Level- Kindergarten

Classroom Suggestion- This app has numerous games that
are age appropriate for kindergarten students. The app can
be used in numerous math lessons. This allows the student to
count by twos, to do sequencing etc. It would be a great app
to have for when the children have free time that can choose
to play. Also could be used in small groups to let the kids
work together.
Pros- Child friendly layout. Eye catching graphics. Graphics
are familiar to the students such as apples, oranges and
mittens.
Cons- The games are repetitive on the free version. Once the
child has completed the levels they can not go on unless the
paid version is bought.

Classroom Suggestions- This game lets the student
choose from six categories. The children can do
sequences, count by ones and tens, do mazes, add,
subtract and count. I would also allow this games as
a free time opportunity. Could also use this in the
specific lesson areas, for example if the lesson is on
subtraction just choose the subtraction games to play.
Pros- Easy to use. Very child friendly graphics and
sound files.
Cons- Just the first part of each of the six categories
can be played on the free version.

4.NF.2 C. c. Solve word problems involving
multiplication of a fraction by a whole number, e.g.,
by using visual fraction models and equations to
represent the problem. For example, if each person at
a party will eat 3/8 of a pound of roast beef, and
there will be 5 people at the party, how many pounds
of roast beef will be needed? Between what two whole
numbers does your answer lie?

Grade Level-4th grade

Classroom Suggestions- this app has lesson plans, practice
lessons and tests all centered around skills that fourth grade
students should know. Teachers can use this to plan on how
to teach anything from fractions and how to manipulate
them to geometry and more. The students could work on
these lessons alone, in small group or even as a whole
classroom. The teacher could also assign this app as
homework for extra help in any of the areas that are
covered.
Pros- The lessons are age appropriate. The child can
choose what area that they want to work on. The lessons are
on the side bars and the children can read them as they are
working.
Cons- The app has a lot of ads. Sometimes the app does
freeze but it is an easy fix.

Classroom Suggestions- This app has math,
language arts and reading lessons all based around
common core. The app does cost to download more
than a few select lessons. This app would be great
for the children to do alone. I think this would be a
great app to have on hand for substitutes that may
not know the common core standards.
Pros- The app not only covers the standard that I
have selected but also covers many different
standards and was built with the common core
standards in mind.
Cons- The app costs to download more than just a
couple of the lessons.

Classroom Suggestions- This app is all about
writing the upper and lower case letters of the
alphabet. The app speaks the letters name after the
child has successfully written the letter. This app can
be used in a writing center. The app can also be used
during spelling.
Pros- The app can be used with a stylus to get the
feel of actual writing. The app not only teaches them
to recognize the letters but write them as well.
Cons- The app seems to freeze occasionally not
letting the user successfully write the letter they are
working on.

Classroom Suggestions- this app allows children to choose
various games that deals with the alphabet. One game has
the children select the uppercase to match to the lowercase
game. This app can be displayed on the smartboard by the
teacher and have the student come up and take turns
matching the letters.
Pros- the children will learn how to match the uppercase
and lowercase of the letters. The children will also associate
the different animals that go with each letter.
Cons-The matching game freezes and drops some of the
uppercase letters as the user is trying to match them to the
lowercase letter.

Classroom Suggestions- If the classroom is equipped with
1:1 technology this could be sent home as practice for sight
words. The app allows you to choose from pre primary to
Grade 2 level sight words. This would help students who are
behind be able to practice easier words and those who are
advance to be able to practice advanced words. The app also
has a flag that children can select to add to the practice
category where they can create their own set of practice
words.
Pros- Children can work on this app independently. The app
is easy to understand and appealing to children.
Cons- There are apps at the bottom of the app and it is easy
to click the add as you are trying to click for it to go to the
next word.

Classroom Suggestions- This app has the ability to let the
children choose to quiz themselves on the words. The
children can also choose upper or lower case letters for the
words. The app also has a quiz where the students can turn
off the sound and see if they can read the word without the
app speaking it. The app can be used independently or as a
group effort of reading sight words. The teacher could
project it on a smartboard or overhead projector and have
the students repeat the words.
Pros- The app has a lot of free features such as turning off
sound, choosing random words, choosing to quiz etc.
Cons- The app does not allow you to choose the grade level
of the words. That can be frustrating for younger children.

Classroom Suggestions- I would use this app in a
discussion on proper hygiene. I would have each
child a brand new toothbrush and let them each use
the app to brush their teeth. I would also send home
an informational sheet about the app and proper
tooth brushing habits so parents can download the
app if they choose to.
Pros- Teaches kids the steps to brushing teeth.
Allows children to buy healthy food/drink.
Cons- Is more of a timer than an actual game.

Classroom Suggestions- I would use this app after lunch
time. I would have each child a toothbrush they get to keep
in a clean environment in the classroom for each day. After
lunch the children would get their brush and I would have
this app playing while they brush their teeth. To get around
not having many sinks in the classroom I would have each
child two cups. One with water and one to spit in. They
would then throw their cups away. They then can take their
toothbrushes to the bathroom or sink if the classroom has
one and wash their brushes.
Pros- Very cute catchy song. The children can watch the
toothpaste figure dance while they brush. They can also
earn coins to buy the toothpaste figure clothes and
accessories
Cons- have to be creative to use the app in the classroom.

Additional Standards Met

North Carolina Professional Teaching Standard 4 Teachers facilitate learning
for their students. Teachers integrate and utilize technology in their instruction.
This standard was met by having the students use each application.
NETS-T 2 a. Design or adapt relevant learning experiences that incorporate
digital tools and resources to promote student learning and creativity.
The students would use the tablets or computers to use the apps that I chose for
this project.
NETS-S 2a. Interact, collaborate, and publish with peers, experts, or other
employing a variety of digital environments and media.
Some of the apps I thought would be good to use as a whole group instruction
such as the flashcards. Each student would be working together to come up with
the right answer for the words.
NCCCES K.TT.1 Use technology tools and skills to reinforce classroom concepts
and activities.
NCCES 4.TT.1 Use technology tools and skills to reinforce classroom concepts
and activities.
Each of the math apps both kindergarten and fourth grade apps reinforce the
ideas that would align with the curriculum.
