Discover the secret lives of sailors as we


roleplay different types of sailors each
day. Learn sailors crafts, practice simple
seamanship skills aboard our historic vessels,
and cruise the Mystic River.

SUMMER CAMP OPEN HOUSE

Visit Mystic Seaport on Saturday, April 30,


between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. to learn about
our variety of summer camps, including day
camps, overnight camps, and day sailing
programs. Summer Camps staff will be
available to answer your questions and help
you determine which camp is best for your
child. Camp registrations processed at the
Open House will receive a 10% discount on
the camp price. Admission is free for Open
House attendees.

program features hands-on activities in exhibits

craft projects! Travel the universe on Star Day,
explore the ocean deep and the Mystic River on
Sea Critter Day, discover the secret lives of sailors
aboard ships on Jack Tar day, and much more.

Wind, Wheels, and Wagons
July 4-8

This is a camp for children who love boats, trucks,


bikes, and seeing how these things work. Learn
how transportation has changed over time and
check out vehicles from different eras. Climb
aboard fishing boats and sailing vessels, explore
a historic firetruck, and take a ride on our horse
and carriage. Build your own toy boats and race
them against each other. Delve into the different
ways that people and things moved from place
to place, while playing fun games and working on
fantastic craft projects.

Seaport Sampler
June 27-July 1

Get a childs eye-view of the Museums wooden


whaling ship, Charles W. Morgan, see the stars
in the Planetarium, and explore the critters
that live in the Mystic River. Children will enjoy
getting hands-on in our exhibits and making
wonderful crafts. Cap off the week with a boat
ride on the river.

Playing the Past


July 11-15

Go back in time to learn how young Victorian


girls spent their days. Visit our one-room
schoolhouse and play games that young ladies
would have played at recess. Learn to make
homemade dolls and paper crafts. Explore our
town and stop by one of our houses for a sweet
treat baked in our hearth kitchen.

Arts From Around the World

This is a special hands-on program in the arts


that teaches campers about countries and
cultures around the world. Each day, the
children will travel to a different area of
the world and make fantastic art projects as

Joint Camp with the
Pequotsepos Nature Center

Learn how life on land and life at sea are


interconnected. Find your way through the woods
and across the oceans using compasses and by
following the stars. At Mystic Seaport, explore
navigation, life in a coastal town, and how the
marine world connects with the terrestrial world. At
the Nature Center, test your orienteering skills, meet
live animals, and investigate the food webs that link
the land and sea.

Discover what opportunities girls had in the


1800s and what their daily lives were like.
Try your hand at 19th-century cooking and

investigate the reaches of outer space. Join us
for an adventurous week making connections

If you want to learn about the past by living it,


then this camp is for you. 1876 is an exciting
year full of nostalgia for Americas colonial
past as well as visions of the future. You will
investigate the families, manners, and pasttimes of the people who lived in 1876 Mystic.

Navigating the Mystic River
June 27 July 1

Come learn how to navigate on land and at sea


in this new camp. You will spend the mornings
with our Planetarium staff, learning about
the night sky and how to use various nautical
instruments to navigate and find your way. In
the afternoon, you will move onto the river to
learn and refine basic sailing skills in our small
boats. All sailing instructors are fully licensed
by the US Sailing Association.

Living the History:
The Girls of Greenmanville
July 25 29

In this program you learn about first-person


interpretation by researching and adopting
personas of young women living in Mystic in
1876. From exploring 19th-century documents
to donning an outfit in the Museums
characters wardrobe, you will understand how
girls became women in 1876 and how little
difference there is between young women
then and now.

Our junior and family programs are for beginner
and intermediate sailors using JY15s and/or
Dyer Dhows. Competent swimmers ages 15 and
older may enroll in adult classes. Classes are
taught by experienced sailors who have been
certified by the US Sailing Association.

inclement weather students will participate
in fun, hands-on STEM (Science, Technology,
Engineering, and Math) activities related
to sailing.

Mystic River Adventure: Joint


Program with Mystic Aquarium
(ages 9-12)
Monday Friday, 8:30 a.m. 4 p.m.

At the Mystic Aquarium (8:30 a.m. 12 p.m.),


your child will learn about the animals and
habitats of the Mystic River and Long Island
Sound. After lunch (12 1 p.m.), campers will
travel to Mystic Seaport for a sailing adventure
(1 4 p.m.). This program will provide your
child a unique opportunity to see the Mystic
River from above and below.

The morning will focus on the history of


Coogan Farm. This will include exploration,
hands-on activities at the farm, and
participation in the Giving Garden. Campers
will eat lunch before coming to Mystic Seaport
where they will learn how to sail in JY15
sailboats in the afternoon (weather permitting).

Joseph Conrad Overnight


Summer Sailing Camp
(ages 10-15)

Sunday 4 p.m. Friday 1 p.m.

Sign your child up for a unique overnight


summer sailing camp on the beautiful Mystic
River! Campers sleep aboard an historic
full-rigged ship, the Joseph Conrad, learn
to sail during the day, and participate in fun
activities at night, including a boat ride on
the Mystic River, 19th- century zip-lining
(Breeches Buoy life-saving re-enactment), a
Planetarium show, climbing the rigging, and
more! Lifelong friendships are made through
the spirit of teamwork that underlies the
Conrad experience. Our staff includes a state
licensed director, experienced counselors and
experienced sailing instructors, many of whom
are past Conrad participants. The Conrad is
fitted out with bunks for 50 campers, flush
toilets, showers, heat, and electricity.

Teen Sailing Aboard Brilliant

(ages 15-18)
Monday, June 13 - Wednesday, August 10
All voyages start 9 a.m. and finish 4 p.m.

Experience the adventure and challenge of


sailing while visiting New England harbors
and towns aboard schooner Brilliant. Nine
teenagers will work together under the
guidance of the professional crew to safely
sail hundreds of miles and learn traditional
seamanship skills. The Brilliant program
focuses on educating participants about sailhandling and theory, teamwork, being a good
shipmate, stewardship, navigation, and proper
seamanship. No previous sailing experience is
necessary.
