Active Participation
5:  always volunteers, consistently asks relevant questions and frequently speaks target language.
4:  usually volunteers and asks relevant questions, attempts to speak language whenever possible, not 
just during class activities.
3:  periodic volunteering, contributes if called upon, occasionally asks questions, speaks language only 
when asked a direct question or in class activities.
2:  rarely volunteers, rarely speaks target language. 
1:  does not take an active role in class.

Passive Participation
5:  always involved, consistently listens and respects other students, is supportive of others’ efforts.
4:  attentive, supportive, and involved most of the time.
3:  somewhat withdrawn from class activities, but follows class discussions.
2:  rarely involved, rarely attentive
1:  does not follow class activities or discussions

Accountability
5:  always on task, gets to work immediately, takes notes without having to be told, works well with 
others.
4:  usually on task, cooperates with others
3:  has to be reminded to remain on task and take notes, occasionally uses class time for the completion 
of outside work
2:  needs constant reminders to begin work, does not cooperate with others, uses class time for outside 
work.
1:  wastes class time, interrupts others.

Preparation
5:  always prepared for class with the appropriate materials, book is always covered, is always 
punctual and ready to begin class.
4:  usually prepared, prompt, and ready to work.
3:  occasionally missing materials, occasionally tardy
2:  consistent pattern of missing materials, book is not covered, student is often tardy
1:  completely unprepared for class.
