Week 1

January 23, 2016

On our first day, the first thing we did was introducing ourselves. Its a
pleasant start for the both of us because maybe shes comfortable to my
presence. Her name is Cassandra, but they call her Anjang. I asked her
about the things she like the most, and its Barbie. I told her that when we
finish our tutorial successfully Ill give her a Barbie if ever I had money that
time or Ill just surprise her.
Her mom told me that Anjang was sometimes irritable when she
doesnt want what she was doing, and she told me that I should not
pressure her. Then I began my tutorial by testing her first to know her
weakness. The first two parts are about reading comprehension, she
missed some words but it was pretty good. Next is writing, she wrote the
words that I dictate, she misspelled a lot of words but I understood it
because some words are hard for her age. The last part of the test is
mathematics, she did it properly, shes good in math and she enjoys solving
problems.

I told her mom about the result of the test, and she said that it was
fine with her if I teach her child everything that can help Cassandra.

Week two
January 30, 2016
In our second week, I let her color some of the materials I brought for
her warm up exercise. After 10 minutes we start reading basic English
words. At first it was hard for her but then I taught her some techniques for
her to read it easier. When I felt that she was already bored, I read a story
for her. It was a long day for the both of us but it was fun seeing her that
she learned a lot from me.

Week 4
February 13, 2016

It was stressful day for me, because just like her mother said on
our first day, she had tantrums. I let her borrow my phone so that shell feel
better before we start and good thing it works. The case was it took us a lot
of time to cool her down. So I proceed to teach her in writing English words.
We started by dictating what she should right. She had a lot of mistakes but
at the end of the day she scored 15 out of 20. Not bad.

Week 3
February 6, 2016

Before we start our tutorial, I gave her some candies and she likes it.
The tutorial was easy today because it was Filipino Reading and she
already knew the abacada. She might be too slow, but I know after some
more practice she will learn how to read better. She didnt got bored this
time maybe because she like the stories we read.

Week 5
February 22, 2016
I went to their house before I went to school because I wasnt able to
teach her last Saturday because I got sick. I decided to teach her English
Reading Comprehension again, we review our past lesson about English
reading and I didnt expect that she was able not to missed a word. Then
we read more words and we proceed to reading paragraphs and stories.
She really improved her reading skill and it makes me glad.

Week 6
February 27, 2016

She might be good in math but she doesnt know the figure of the
numbers so at first I let her memorize the figures, the spelling of the
numbers. Then we proceeded to solving problems using our hands. When
the answer is from 10 below it was easy for her to answer but when its
above 10 she cheat me by using her feet. Funny isnt it? I extended our
time because Ill miss her soon as I stepped out of their house. We review
some of our lessons and right after finishing our one and a half hour, we
watched her favorite Barbie movie.

Even though we spent only few hours for 6 days, I really enjoyed
teaching her. It inspires me to help more kids who cant afford to go to
school because of poverty and support more voluntary works. If only I have
more extra time and money Ill make my own way to continue these kind of
works. I really thank Maam Galut for having a program like this and I hope
NSTP in our school will remain like this and adding more of this.
