The specific piping systems shall be defined on the project flow diagrams. 1.2 Any data pertaining to specific project design information shall be included in the General Project Specification and shall become a part ofthis standard. 1.3. Incase of a conflict between this standard and the General Project Specification, the Specification shall govern. CODES AND STANDARDS 2.1 All piping systems and components shall, where applicable, conform to the requirements specified by the latest revisions of the following codes: 24d ASME B31-1 Standard Code for Power Piping. 212 ASME BB1.3 Standard Code for Pressure Piping - Process Piping, 213 ASME B31.4 Liquid Petroleum Transportation Piping Systems, 24 ASME B31.8 Gas Transmission and Distribution Piping Systems. 21.5 ANSI Standards of Piping Components Dimensions and Pressure-Temperature Ratings. 216 ASTM Standards for Materials. 247 NACE MR-O1-75 Sulfide Stress Cracking Resistant Metallic Material for Oil Field Equipment, 218 API 1104 Specification for Welding Pipelines and Related Facilities. 2.2. ‘The requirements of ASME, ANSI and API codes as stated above shall be considered minimum requirements. Modifications for local government regulations, rules and codes shall be made only if they exceed the ANSI or API codes as above. DESIGN PRESSURE, 3.1 The design pressure for each line shall be determined by adding a safety factor to the maximum ‘anticipated operating pressure. The safety factor shall be the greater of 30 psi or 10% of the maximum anticipated operating pressure. 3.2. The design pressure for each line shall be listed on the Pipeline Schedule. ENGINEERING STANDARD 01 Date: April 1981 PIPING DESIGN Rev. 6, September 1996 Page 3 of 18 4.0 DESIGN TEMPERATURE 4.1 ‘The design temperature for each line shall be determined by adding 50 F to.the maximum anticipated operating temperature. 4.2 The design temperature for each line shall be listed on the Pipeline Schedule. 5.0 BASIS OF DESIGN 5.1 Pipes sizes smaller than 1/2" shall not be used except for instrumentation and steam tracing. 5.2 Carbon steel pipe sizes 1-1/4", 2-1/2", 5", 7", 9°, etc., shall not be used except for connecting to equipment. 5.3. This standard also provides acceptable standardized materials to decrease replacement inventories and maintenance parts. 1.2 This standard supplies only the material specifications for pipe, pipe fittings, and valves. It is the Piping Engineer's responsibility to check the pipe. wall thickness for the service, having due regard for the corrosive nature of the flowing medium at the operating temperature and pressure. Whea corrosion allowance or wall thickness are shown, they are to be considered minimum values. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS ‘The design and selection of material for each Piping Specification shall conform, as a minimum, to the code as indicated on that Piping Specification. The Piping Engineer shall confirm compliance with all codes and regulations applying at that location of the construction. The ‘material specified by these standards shall be considered to be minimum required. Material substitutions are acceptable when approved by the Piping Engineer. APPLICATION OF MATERIAL CLASSES Xk shall be the responsibility of the Piping Engineer to select the appropriate Piping Specifications as required for a particular project. A list of the specifications selected for cach project, along with the corresponding revision levels, shall be maintained in the project files und included in the Project Specification Book. A copy of each specification used in the design and ‘construction of the project shall also be Kept in the permanent file of that project. PRESSURE-TEMPERATURE LIMITATIONS 4.1 ‘The pressure-temperature limitations shall be as specified in ANS BI6.5 for the specific ANSI flange rating of each specification where the flange is the controlling component. When the limitation is set by a specified design pressure and temperature, the required pipe wall thickness shall be calculated in accordance with the applicable code. 4.2 The Piping Engineer shall assume responsibilty for determining the limitations of each piping component and verifying that Petrofac LLC or client standards are acceptable for the particular job. METHOD OF IDENTIFYING PIPING MATERIAL SPECIFICATIONS 5.1 A three place code is to be used to identify Petrofae LLC piping specifications as shown below. ‘The first two codes are significant and the third code uses non-significant sequential letters. The levers I and O will not be used to avoid confusion with the numbers L and 0. ‘The code shall take the form LNL where: L-Lewer — (A~Zexcluding {and O} N-Number (0-9) “The first code is a letter which denotes pipe material. See Table 1 for details. ENGINEERING STANDARD June 1986 10, Dec 1998 603 PIPING MATERIAL Page 3 of 8 METHOD OF IDENTIFYING PIPING MATERIAL CLASS (Continued ‘The second code is a number which denotes Mange pressure class, See Table 2 for details The lest code is a letter assigned sequentially for variations of a particular flange and pipe material combination due (o changes in pipe wall thickness, fittings, gaskets, valves, etc. which are dictated by service conditions or special customer requirements, ‘TABLE 1 ~ PIPE MATERIAL A Galvanized Carbon Steel B Plain Carbon Steel C Low Temp Carbon Stee! No special significance is to be given to the third code in an attempt to draw attention 10 similarities of one material/flange combination to another. The third code is simply a place holder. Using a single letter for the third code will allow for 24 variations of each pipe material/flange combination. Double letters will be used if necessary. Double letters may be assigned to special customer specs which are expected to be rarely used. ‘The Piping Engineer will be responsible for assigning all Piping Specification numbers and issuing Piping Specifications. Ezeh Piping Specification number will represent one spec. All Piping Specifications will be maintained permanently in the Engincering Standards book or a designated fle, No Piping Specification is to be revised or ‘modified without revising the original, A revision code will be maintained on each Piping Specification as with any other controlled document. It is the responsibilty of the design engineer to determine the particular valve to be used in a specific service and location, These valve standards are inteaded to simplify this task. Any customers’ requirements will be considered in specifying valves to be used on a particular job. 2.0 VALVE DESCRIPTION 2.1 In sections 4.0 through 11.0 a brief general description of each valve tiormally used by Petrofac LLC and the assigned valve number is given. Each manufacturer's valve will have a more detailed description and should be used once @ particular valve is specified. 2.2 The vaive material and trim described in this standard is considered to be the minimum grade requiced, Substitution of material and trim of a higher grade may be accepted upon approval by Project Engineering. Substitution of a lesser grade will not be accepted under any circumstance unless approved by Project Engince 2.3 Valves which due to their design cannot be used to the Full ANSI pressure-temperature rating shall be limited by the manufacturers' specifications for that particular valve. (Example: Ball valves with cesifient seats.) 3.0 VALVE NUMBERING CODE 3.1 Each valve listed in this standard is assigned a valve number. This umber is made up of the size, type code, end connection, rating code and description number, 3.2 The following example with legend illustrates the Petrofac LLC Valve Numbering System: Example: BALL VALVE 1-1/2" 800# Soc. Therefore if @ threaded valve docs not have a socket weld counterpart that description number will not appear in the socket weld group (.. See B7-1) 3.4 Special Designation for NACE Service Valves. ‘Valves that are required for use in NACE service shall be designated by adding a suffix "N” to the standard valve number! (Example: BI-IN.) Valves with this suffix shall be certified to be in compliance with the latest edition of NACE standard MR-O1-75. It is understood that some vatiation in the description of these standard valves may be necessary in order to comply with NACE, ‘The intent is to supply a standard valve with only the necessary upgrade to comply with NACE. 4.0 GATE VALVES 4.1 123# and 250# Rating 0-1 1254 THD, bronze body, rising stem, threaded bonnet, solid or split wedge dise “Temperature range -20°F 0 350°F.
