STUDENTS BEGIN THEIR STUDIES,
Opening of the Medical and Dental Depart- |
ments at the University.
The one hundred and twenty-fourth winter
course of the medical department and the twelfth
of the dental department of the University was
opened yesterday afternoon, with a formal address
by Dr. James Gyson, professor of clinical medl- |
clue, and Dean of the medical department. Dr,
Gyson spoke in general of tho medical delusions
which have bad each at their’own time so firma |
foundation not always alone in the mindsof the i
laity, but alsoin the minds of the medical frater-
nity: The doctor also attacked homeopsthy and |
sald that it would bethe next medic delusion :
to suffer an overthrow. :

The present entering clasgof the medical de-
partment numbers over 170 students, The first
sear students will be compelled to take hygiene
this year. Dr, Samuel G. Dizon has secured over |
$60,000 to founda Hygiene Labratory, quarters
for which have been made {n the rooms of the old
Stille Medical Society. Here the first year men
will be corspelled fospend several hours a week |
in practicel work. ‘
