Agency Mission
To increase safety in families, empower
victims of domestic violence and displace
homemakers in rural Robeson County.

History
A nonprofit organization that started in 1981 by 5 concerned
community members of Robeson County.
35 years and counting

Was known as Robeson County Committee on Domestic


Violence
Relocated to 900 Chestnut Street in Lumberton and still
maintain the previous building as its main office where CHOICE
program is facilitated.

Needs and Future Direction


Needs:
Bilingual Staff
Transportation: only have one vehicle
Better community resources (referrals): need for housing for people
that accept clients with criminal records.

Future directions:
Transitional Housing Program: for shelter residents to have options
after the 30 day period. Provides Assistance for 3 months with bills
until clients are able to become independent financially.
Possible future needs: Furniture, house appliances, case mangers

SFVC 2009 Statistics
1, 317 individuals were served
22% were male
21% were children under 17
5% were elders

95 adults and children used safe house services to escaped DV


80% of clients who entered shelter were able to transition out into
safe housing
