Introduction
Introduction
VNX systems are available utilizing the dense-storage capabilities of the 60-disk
dense disk-array enclosure (DAE7S). This DAE is 4U high and can include up to 60
disks in one drawer. This dense-storage system is installed in a cabinet (40U-D) that is
5 deeper than a standard EMC cabinet.
The VNX5700 system includes the following components in the cabinet:
The VNX series of products includes a number of different types of DAEs. Only the
3U DAE and the 4U DAE are supported in the dense rack configurations.
In the dense rack configuration, the use of a 3U DAE as DAE 0 will mean that the
system will use a 1U SPS. See Figure 3 on page 4. Systems using the 4U 60-slot DAE for
the vault drives must use a 2U SPS. See Figure 4 on page 4.

The VNX5700 can include a combination of the 3U 15 slot and the 4U 60 slot DAEs.
Any system utilizing the 4U 60 slot DAE7S disk array enclosure requires a deep
(40U-D) cabinet.

The system as delivered in the cabinet will have the number of disks load-balanced
over the buses.
VNX5700 Block
Configuration
The Block configuration includes either a 1U SPS with a 3U DAE and the 2U SPE
(shown in Figure 3 on page 4) or a 2U SPS with a 4U DAE and the 2U SPE (Figure 4 on
page 4).
The VNX5700 Block configuration, with its multiple buses, can provide a convenient
means for utilizing a very dense use of rack space. Depending upon how your system
was designed and configured, you may have nearly 500 disks within one cabinet. A
VNX5700 dense Block configuration can have up to eight of the dense (DAE7S) DAEs
in the first cabinet. See Figure 5 on page 6, for example.

If the VNX5700 Block configuration has space reserved for future or potential File
upgrade to a Unified configuration, space for the File hardware components will be
provided at the top of the system cabinet. This allows for easier access and service to
these components. See Figure 6 on page 7 for an illustration of a dense VNX5700
Unified system.
The File and Unified configurations include the 2U storage processor enclosure (SPE),
a 1U or a 2U standby power supply (SPS), two 2U data mover enclosures, one or two
1U Control Stations, DAE 0, and [optional] disk-array enclosures (DAEs) for holding
additional storage.

Because a VNX5700 system can support up to 500 drives, the VNX5700 File/Unified
dense system can include up to seven of the 4U 60 slot DAEs in the first cabinet.
Additional storage can be added in an additional cabinet.
