INTRODUCCIN
La Funcin Caracterstica se define como la esperanza matemtica de una variable
aleatoria compleja, desempea un papel importante en el clculo de probabilidades, como
instrumento analtico en las demostraciones de los teoremas lmites.
La Funcin Caracterstica de una variable aleatoria es una funcin de variable real que
toma valores complejos, que permite la aplicacin de mtodos analticos, es decir, de anlisis
funcional en el estudio de la probabilidad. En este marco si se identifica la distribucin de la
variable aleatoria considerada con una medida positiva, la Funcin Caracterstica se denomina
transformada de Fourier de la medida correspondiente.
La Funcin Caracterstica de una variable aleatoria, as como la funcin generadora de
momentos o la funcin de distribucin acumulada o la funcin de densidad o de masa definen la
distribucin de probabilidad de dicha variable aleatoria.
El mtodo de las Funciones Caractersticas fue introducido en las probabilidades por
Lyapunov en 1904 para la demostracin del Teorema Central del Lmite que hoy lleva su
nombre. La versin definitiva de este teorema fue obtenida posteriormente por Lindeberg.

Sin duda que la mayor importancia del estudio de la Funcin Caracterstica radica en el
hecho que aprender y manejar esta herramienta, menos comn de la teora de probabilidades
facilita la demostracin del resultado ms importante de ella: el Teorema Central del Lmite.
En este trabajo se presentar primero la definicin de variable aleatoria compleja y otros
conceptos preliminares. En la Seccin dos se definir Funcin Caractersticas y se demostrarn
los teoremas relativos ms importantes. Tambin se darn algunos ejemplos. En la Seccin tres
se demostrar el Teorema de Inversin. Luego en la Seccin cuatro se demostrarn los Teoremas
Lmites utilizando la Funcin Caracterstica. En la Seccin cinco se dar una aplicacin en el
campo de la fsica. Finalmente se darn conclusiones del estudio realizado y futuras
proyecciones.

Conceptos Preliminares
La Funcin Caracterstica de una variable aleatoria se define como la esperanza
matemtica de la variable compleja e ixt . Debemos estudiar primero las variables aleatorias
complejas y preguntarnos cmo los teoremas relativos a las variables aleatorias reales se pueden
aplicar a las variables aleatorias complejas.
