(2013-2023) ng United Nations-Economic and Social Commission
in the Asia Pacific (UN-ESCAP).

kapansanan. Naganap ito sa Old Municipal Covered Court, Brgy.
Baybayin.

Kultura at Wika ...

Panitik at literatura
Kabilang pa rin sa malawakang
pagdiriwang ng Buwan ng mga Wika
ay ang story-telling sa preschool. Nagkaroon naman ng pagkakataon ang
mga nasa ika-lima at anim na baitang
na makita ang manunulat ng libro na
si Egay Calabia Samar at Michael Jude
Tumamac. Ibinahagi nila ang kahalagahan ng pagbabasa. Nagkuwento
sila Samar at Tumamac kung paano
naisagawa ang mga librong kanilang
isinulat.
Ang SHSI ay nagkaroon ng isang
linggong Book Fair mula sa Scholastic
at Adarna House.
Roch Lazarte at Henri Igna. Ikinagalak

Adarna House.

OSIS: of rice science
by Elsie E. Reyes

he Philippine Rice Research

Institute (PhilRice) Los Baos
will open its one-stop information shop or OSIS to the public by
November this year.
OSIS is PhilRice new project
which aims to provide information
on rice research to students and other
stakeholders.

Audio-visual presentations of the latest

rice technologies, meanwhile, can be
viewed through a television.
The second component is the
PhilRice database. Stored here are
documents, reports, photos, and videos
of PhilRice. Readers will need to ask
for assistance from the OSIS personnel-in-charge to access the materials.

Inside the one-stop information shop

The one-stop information shop has
two basic components: the mini library
or the Palay-Aklatan and the PhilRice
database.
The first component houses books,
magazines, brochures, and publications from PhilRice and other R&D
institutions.
A designated computer can also
be used for online research through
PhilRice websites such as www.
pinoyrice.com and www.philrice.gov.
ph. An E-lib system also makes the
library use more convenient. Readers
can search their preferred publication
and will be alerted of its availability.

Accessing the collections

The Palay-Aklatan adopts an open
access system. Users can directly get
the publication they need straight off
the shelves. However, all the publications will be for room use. According
to Ms. Jacqueline Lee Canilao, one of
the proponents of the OSIS, the institute is looking forward to allowing the
patrons to bring out publications and
materials in the future.
Not your typical rice
information hub
In a way, OSIS is different from
other rice information hub. For Ca-

nilao, what sets it apart is that it is a

mini-library set-up that would soon
incorporate museum artifacts, paintings, and others that can give the area
a more modern and sophisticated feel.
She added that visitors can further
expect visually-engaging mini-exhibits
in the future.
Aside from the OSIS refreshing
theme, Canilao also encourages people
to visit because of what the hub holds.
The mini-library houses a wealth of
information on rice and rice technologies. Since rice is the major staple in
our country, its but important that the
public increase awareness on the many
aspects and functions of rice, shares
Canilao.
OSIS will be formally launched on
the first quarter of 2016. OSIS is open
to the public from 9:00am to 4:00pm. It
is also open during lunch break.

Kooperatiba 101: Part 2

umaga. Laman nito ang mga magagandang
kwento, masasayang karanasan, at
makabuluhang mga usapan patungkol sa
Laguna. Ang replay ay tuwing Lunes (2PM),
Miyerkules (4PM), at Biyernes (10PM) sa
parehong istasyon

namamahala at tumatangkilik.
microfinance institution, wala siyang makukuhang balik
tangkilik.
Residente ng Pilipinas;
18 taon pataas;

Leren Mae M.
Bautista sa ibat-ibang barangay ng Los Baos
kasabay ng Homecoming Motorcade noong
nakaraang Agosto 8.
Si Bb. Bautista ay kinoronahan bilang Mutya ng
Pilipinas Asia-Pacific International 2015 noong
Agosto 2 sa Newport Theater, Resorts World
Manila.
Tubong Brgy. Anos, si Bautista ay tinanghal na rin
bilang Ms. Los Baos 2013. Madalas rin siyang
maimbitahan bilang Reyna Elena tuwing Mahal na
Araw lalo na ng Brgy. Timugan at ng Brgy Anos.
Mahaba man ang nilalakad tuwing prusisyon, ayon

Dagdag pa ni Bautista, we, Lagunenses, are very
welcoming and accommodating that tourists love
returning to our province. We also still hold on to
traditional values... I think this sets us apart from others.
Sa darating na Disyembre ay makikipagtunggali siya
para sa korona ng Miss Tourism Queen of the Year sa
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Ayon sa kaniya, to those
who believed [in me] and supported me, many thanks to
you! This is all for you.
