Youth sports
People think that youth sports can be too intense for some kids to handle. They may get
injured while playing. National Academy of Sciences (NAS) found that football players suffer
the most concussions of all high school-aged athletes, with eleven point two concussions
reported per 10,000 athletic exposures (Higgins). Kids could take the worst injuries playing a
sport such as broken bones concussions even dying. But youth sports even thou its dangerous it
can form a Childs life youth sports can help you grow and prepare you for what in the future.
Youth sports can help you make friends you also can create enemies. Youth sports have the most
reported fights between refs and children fighting, its apart of the game kids gets angry now and
then. You should leave your anger in the game sometimes it helps you play better. Even though
some people believe youth sports can be emotionally and physically damaging, youth sports
teach young athletes the value or discipline and hard work kids should have their own
choice rather to play or not their parent shouldnt force them into doing some they dont
want to, people also believe there should be more protection in sports the coaches should
be alarm of everything thats going on.
Youth sports can help kids become smarter in the future, because it can teach kids how to
make their own choices. Kids should have their own choice to play sports or not. Some kids
would rather be computer geeks or play with toys and sit in the house, but adults should never
force a child in doing something he or she does not want to. Sometimes Greater parental tends to
weaken a child's sense of ownership of his athletic career, sometimes destroying his will to
succeed (Helliker). Kids are being labeled as burnouts when actually they are just angry at
having no options in their lives (Helliker). Kids feel as their parents was getting and their way to
succeed. One male and female athlete reported that eighty eight per cent participated in an

8562753 2
average of two to three sports as children and seventy per cent didn't specialize in one sport until
after age twelve (Jill). Parents feel as if they keep their child in that one sport theyll be great in
the future.
Kids had to choose early what sport they wanted to play because of their parents, they felt
that they were better at another sport then the other. Also another reason is the gap between the
child's desire to have fun and the misguided notion among some adults that their kids' games are
a miniature version of grown-up competitions, where the goal is to win (Atkinson). When adults
teach their kids the wrong thing it takes the fun out of the sports, parents try to teach their kids
winning is the only way which is wrong for a child to condone, once the child start to lose he or
she wouldnt know how to take it and get angry most likely wanting to quit.
Adults wanted their kids to be so good that most kids were doing some form of drug
before the age of thirteen (Bobby). Kids should never be doing any form of drug itll most likely
affect the child and the future. Roughly thirty young athletes who admitted to doping, just one
reported having been tested, "We don't do much testing of young children and they're very much
aware of that (Bobby). The study found young athletes believed performance-enhancing drugs
were used by about a third of adult elite athletes. The children thought that because the adults
were using drugs they could do the same.

Every week at kids games fights break out and still continue to not be reported. This is
why they have not fixed the problem yet. At the games the referees are the first one to get attack
study says that people see the refs as easy targets (Shira). When the parents start to fight and the
crowd and the kids join in to protect their parents or family members , riots break out and messed
up the game in its over. Fights between players and officials, coaches and officials, and fans and
officials are happening with alarming frequency and increasing brutality, predominantly at
amateur games of every kind (Shira). Kids should calm and play the game fair with
sportsmanship and accept the referrers calls.
Officials should be alarm that anything can happen at any time, and the coaches should
be more protective of the children safety. Kids have to be smarter and not get involved when

8562753 4
fights break out if anything they should break it up. The teams should have a meeting where
parents and adults attend to fix the problem, and then if the kids or adults break the rule there
should be a consequence for them such as cannot attend the games or just getting kicked out.
They also should hire more security for games to protect the kids more (Shira). This should be
the solution to the fights between parents.
Kids also have to fight an emotional battle between other students or parents such as
getting bullied, peers dying, and problems with parents (Heliker). When kids have problems they
play sports and when they have a problem, they sometimes take it out on the other players or
even the refs this is another way riots start to happen. Kids fight to release stress or to build
confident some times to gain respect. Adults should stop that from happening and help their child
out by talking to them.

Coaches should be more aware of their players health. Kids now and days try to play
sports in any kind of conditions sick, dehydrated with a concussion, and more. Its not safe for a
child to play in such conditions. The National Academy of Sciences (NAS) found that football
players suffer the most concussions of all high school-aged athletes, with eleven point two
concussions reported per ten thousand athletic exposures (Higgins). Coaches dont report their
players injuries such as concussion which is a severe injury players could be hurt without the
coach not even know whats going on.
Kids have to also let their coaches know if their something wrong with them so there
coach could be aware of their situation before letting them play. Kids try to keep their injuries
from their coaches to continue playing. Loyola University Medical Center in suburban Chicago

learned that the child's coach had instructed him to take off his splint before a tryout; for fear that
it would hinder his performance (Aschwanden). The coach didnt care about the childs safety he
just wanted him to play to win, most coaches just want to win.
Kids parents should be more involved in these types of situations. Parents know if their
child is hurting or not they should pull their child out and let him/she rest to regain their strength.
Kids also get hurt playing recreation sports study says kids get hurt playing organize sports than
outside ball (Aschwanden). Kids should be more careful when they play so they dont want to
get hurt. Parents should teach them to toughing up and learn how to play through pain
sometimes.
Many other sources, however, argue that youth sports can be
emotionally and physically damaging. Authors argue that sports can ruin a
Childs life it can take a Childs pride such as getting bullied by teammates
and their coaches. Kids should be able to protect their self where ever they
are they should be stronger and dont let other kids bully them. Parents
should help them out to become stronger in life to gain some strength. Kids
also have parents who spend money on their children and it decreases Childs
motivation (Helliker). People also think that sports should be Childs play. The
heightened pressure on child athletes to be, essentially, adult athletes has
fostered an epidemic of hyperspecialization that is both dangerous and
counterproductive (Heliker). Kids should not have to copy what they see on
the TV; they try to copy what they see the adults doing and get concussions
in other stuff. What this argument fails to consider is that at a young age all
kids want to do is be like their idle and this is in any sport.

Sports mainly contact sports can be physically damaging you never know what can
happen. A kid from New York died and a football collision. Tom Cutinella, a player for
Shoreham-Wading River High School in Elwood, N.Y., sustained a head injury during a game
Wednesday night and died following surgery. Demario Harris of Charles Henderson High School
in Troy, Ala., died Sunday after he was tackled on Friday. And Isaiah Langston of Rolesville
High School in Rolesville, N.C., collapsed during pregame warm-ups and later died (Teicher
Khadaroo). This proves that sports are dangerous for anybody especially children a child could
get hurt at any second not even doing nothing and just past out. What this argument fails to
overlook is that getting hurt is a part of playing a sport but dying is not but their so many kids
playing a sport all across the word somebody most likely is going to get severely injured.
Kids have to know what theyre getting into when they play a sport
how dangerous it is, how they could get hurt, how bad they could get hurt
and could they possibly die playing. Author shear says this dynamic has also
sent shock waves through the youth sports world, where parents are
questioning whether to allow their children to take part in games that could
cause them long-term damage (Shear). Their collective decisions are likely to
affect sports like football and hockey for years to come. This could change
the world of sports for a while if people keep getting hurt. What this
argument does not take into account is that what the world would be without
youth sports that just means more kids on the streets doing something they
dont supposed to be doing.
Because youth sports teach young athletes the value of discipline and hard work more
and more parents are now starting to involve their children in sports. In the past people were

8562753 7
scared to put their kids and sports because they didnt know what youth sports could provide for
their children, most kids were getting injured because of the lack of protection that sports had
such as football and basketball, soccer and even baseball they added more referees more
reinforcements in case any thing happens and a lot more to keep kids protected. In the future
every child is going to play a sport, kids are going to be better and the future then now cause kids
now can teach their kids how to play a sport that they loved to play as a young child. Kids should
not have to grow up being stuck in the house doing nothing watching other kids play.
