Introduction

Students discuss the photo on p. 84 with a partner and


answer the questions.
Additional discussion questions:
-How many times in your life have you moved?
-Is it common for young adults in your culture to live by
themselves? Why or why not?

Vocabulary
In pairs, students receive three new vocabulary words
and work together to first define the words (using their
phones), then teach the words to the rest of the class
(using photos or synonyms).

Practice

1. Ss listen to a conversation incorporating new


vocabulary words. Ss follow along with a written
version of the conversation and fill in stressed
words that are left blank.
2. T asks ss which words they didnt know.
3. T write the unfamiliar words on the board.
4. Ss work in pairs to define the unknown words.
5. Further discuss the new vocabulary.
6. Listen to the conversation again. Ss finish filling
in the blanks.

Information

-ED Endings
Explain that there are three pronunciations for words
that end in -ed depending on the sounds that come
before -ed (similar to -s endings learned in chapter 1).
1. Ss listen and write the words they hear on the
recording then check which sound they hear at
the end of the word.
2. Ss practice saying their answers w/partner.
3. Discuss as a class

Ss work with a partner to ask and answer the question
on p. 88 #10 paying attention to -ed endings in their
questions and answers.
