Emergent Literacy

Dear Parents/ Guardians,

Welcome!!! This will be an amazing year filled with learning for my students.
The topic that we will focus on is Emergent Literacy. There is no need fear
this topic because your child is amazing and has been participating in this
process from birth.
Emergent Literacy describes how young children interact with books when
reading and writing, even though they cannot read or write in the formal
sense.
In class activities
-Teacher will read stories to students while doing phonics activities.
-Students will tell the teacher a story and the teacher will write it down for
them to read later on.
-Students will practice writing their names, letters and their own stories.

Surrounding your child in a literature rich environment with books,

magazines, newspapers, etc.
Reading simple stories with one central character and a basic plot.
Supporting early writing by making sure that paper, crayons, pencils,
and markers are available.
