H.W. Byers Middle


School
H.W. Byers Middle School is a Title 1 school
currently serving grades 6th through 8th, in rural Holly
Springs, Mississippi. H.W. Byers is part of the
Marshall County school district and is one of three
middle schools within the district. The enrollment at
the school is 131 students. The school is comprised
of 44 6th graders, 43 7th graders, and 44 8th graders.
The ethnic/racial breakdown of the school is 31.5%
white, 60.8% black, and 7.7% Hispanic. There is
6.9% of students receiving special education
services and 5.4% are ELL.
H.W. Byers is the home of the lions and has
been serving students since the 1950s. H.W. Byers
has a staff of 10 90% of which are Highly Qualified.
The staff includes one special education teacher, two
six grade teachers, one physical education teacher,
one science teacher, two English teachers, two math
and learning strategies teachers and one social
studies teacher. H.W. Byers is On Target on
Mississippis accountability designation scale which
means it is preforming at average. The school is a
title 1 school and 93.44% of students are categorized
as coming from Low-Income Families.
H.W. Byers currently has no parental
involvement plans or committees. There is a parent
contact for the school and there is bi-monthly open
houses for parents to talk with teachers and see

A letter detailing what is expected will be
sent home. It will request that parents
help students with the report. Book
reports will be graded on a rubric.
