Irregular Preterite

1.) Review

Preterite: past tense at ONE POINT in time. It is a

completed action in the past.

Regular AR preterite:
Yo:

Nosotros: AMOS

T: ASTE
l, ella, ud:

Ellos, ellas, uds: ARON

2.) IR/SER

IR: Present tense: Go

SER: am/are/is
Yo: Fui

Preterite tense: Went

Preterite tense: Was/Were

Nosotros: Fuimos

T: Fuiste
l, ella, ud: Fue

Ellos, ellas, uds: Fueron

3.) Examples
Fui al hotel: I went to the hotel
I went to the hotel.
La pelcula fue interesante.
The movie was interesting.
Nosotros fuimos al cine anoche

We went to the movies.

4.) Hacer

Present tense: To do/make

Preterite:

did/made
Yo: hice

Nosotros: hicimos

T: hiciste
l, Ella, Ud: hizo

Ellos/Ellas/Uds: hicieron

5.) Examples: Hacer

Qu hiciste ayer?

What DID you do yesterday?

Hice la tarea!

I DID my homework!

Hizo carne asada la semana pasada.

I MADE carne asada last week.

6.) VER/DAR

VER: present tense: to see

Preterite tense:

DAR: present tense: to give
YO: VI/DI
gave

Preterite tense:

Nosotros: VIMOS/DIMOS

T: VISTE/DISTE
l/ella/Ud: VIO/DIO

Ellos/ellas/uds: VIERON/DIERON

7.) VER/DAR Examples

Yo vi las atraccines ayer.

I went sightseeing yesterday.

Tu diste la presentacin.

You gave the presentation.

Mi Mam vio el Torre de Lndres el ao pasado.

My mom saw the Tower of London last year.

Side note VER/DAR

The VER and DAR endings are

the ER/IR endings we will see in

the future without the accents.
IRREGULARS DONT HAVE

ACCENTS!!
