aecom/ HR Department
I am writing this letter to apply for an entry-level, or intern position with
(aecom). My name is Paul J. Foster. I am 21 years old, and a senior
communication major at Arizona State University, with a minor in
Construction Management from the Del. E. Webb School of Construction.
I possess good interpersonal communication skills; enjoy being around
people while helping to solve problems. I have worked the past two summers
for two program/construction management firms, Jacobs Engineering and
Foster CM Group, respectively. While at these firms, Ive gained valuable
experience in both communications and technical management. Both of
these on-the-job skills should position me to become an asset to (aecom).
While at Jacobs, I shadowed both engineering and construction managers on
the $150 million University Hospital project in San Antonio, TX. While on this
project, I gained experience in document controls along with day-to-day field
experience shadowing project managers and attending construction project
meetings to get an understanding of the technical management processes
required to manage architects/engineers and contractors to assure that the
project was completed on time, within budget and met the quality standards
outlined within the contract documents.
This past summer I was employed as an intern at Foster CM Group, a
program/construction management firm that was providing project
management services on the $100 million additions and renovations to the
AT&T Center. This project was a six month, fast-track project, which
demanded a project completion date of Oct. 17, 2015; one day prior to the
start of the NBA San Antonio Spurs first pre-season home basketball game on
Oct. 18, 2015. The project had a $1 million per day liquidated damages
clause in the contract that would be assessed for each day that the project
was not completed on schedule. Needless-to-say, I received a compressed

education on real on-the-job training for the four months that I worked on
this project providing field verifications, shop drawing review and verification,
and document

Control management. I also had the privilege of shadowing the project
manager and job superintendent, and attend weekly construction meetings.
The job experiences that I have had over these past two summers positions
me above most of my graduating peers in aligning me to add immediate
value to (aecom). Upon my graduation in December 2016 with a bachelors
in Communications and a minor in Construction Management, I will bring to
(aecom) a college graduate with effective job experience, a passion to learn;
and a determination to bring added value to your organization. These skills I
believe are most critical in a team environment such as construction
management. Reinforced my mentor this summer, who kept instilling in me,
that the majority of success on projects rely on good cognitive
communication skills and on-the-job experience; both of which I have
obtained over the past two summers while working on these multi-million
dollar projects.
I have researched (aecom), and Im very impressed with your company
history, integrity, exciting list of projects and qualified staff. It would be an
honor to have an opportunity to interview with (aecom), and spend some
time getting to know more about (aecom) and see how my skills might fit
into the growth of the company.
I look forward to meeting with you at your convenience to discuss my
chances of joining your successful company. I have attached my resume,
and would welcome a personal interview at any time.
Respectfully,

Paul J. Foster
