La tintura de Sternheimer-Malbin consta de dos soluciones. 1 y 2.

Sol.1

Violeta de gensiana: 3 g.
Oxalato de amonio: 0,8 g.
Etanol 95 % : 20 ml.
Agua destilada: 80 ml.

Sol.2

Safranina O: 1ml.
Etanol 95%: 40ml.
Agua destilada: 400 ml.

Mezclar y luego filtrar, 3 partes de solución 1 y 97 partes de solución 2. La mezcla dura

tres meses filtrándola cada dos semanas.
Las soluciones ( 1 y 2) sin mezclar duran indefinidamente.

Para usarla, agregar una o dos gotas de la tintura a 1 ml de suspensión de sedimento

urinario y examinar al microscopio, preferentemente con lente en inmersión de aceite.
SOLUTION 1
crystal violet 3 g
ammonium oxalate 0.8 g
95% ethanol 20 mL
distilled water 80 mL

SOLUTION 2:
safranin O 1 g
95% ethanol 40 mL
distilled water 400 mL

Mix, then filter, 3 parts of solution 1 and 97 parts of solution 2.

The
mixture keeps for three months, filtering every two weeks (the stock
solutions keep indefinitely).
To use, add one or two drops of stain to 1 mL of urine sediment
suspension,
and examine under the microscope, preferably with an oil immersion
lens.
Commercial preparations of the stain have been available in the past.
