Session 2 VCAL English

The materials you chose for this session were very relevant,
engaging and informative. There is no reason why any student
would have found these boring. Well done.

Be very clear with your directions and about the requirements

of the task. This half of the room can be very vague. Perhaps
name the students and tell them where they are sitting you
can do this when the class is small in numbers.

Might be a good idea to read over the questions with them to

ensure they understand the words. What is meant by official
channels and proper channels. The brighter kids will know,
but most wont. The discussion around conservative/liberal
and right wing really lost a lot of the kids. Try to include them
by explaining what such terms mean. They were certainly very
interested to know and learn.

There was a lot of chatter and silly behavior going on whilst

the video was running. Be alert to this and address it. You can
just walk over to the table and tap on the table, or close a
computer, or call out something. It is very easy to get caught
up in the video yourself and not be aware of what is going on
around you.
