QUESTIONS

1. When the radius and mass are held constant, what do you expect to
happen to the centripetal force if the frequency is increased?

If the radius and mass are held constant, centripetal force will increase
as the frequency is increased. Equating from Fc = mv2/r , V is equal to 2pi(r)
(f). It is then obvious the increase on the value of centripetal force,
depending on its frequency.

2. What will happen of the centripetal force apparatus was set up

slightly off the horizontal?

The centripetal force, if not aligned properly on the horizontal, may be

affected with some reasons like having a dynamic or changing value of
centripetal force. All factors on the apparatus may be affected which may
result to not having at least one parameter constant, resulting to a not
constant value of centripetal force.

PROBLEMS

1. A ball rotating in a horizontal circle at a constant speed of 10 m/s.

What are the tensions in the upper and lower strings? The mass of
the ball is 3 kg.

2. What angle of bank is necessary for a car to make it around a 130 m

curve at a speed of 60 kph, without relying on friction?
3. Determine the speed of the satellite orbiting at a height of 700 km
above the Earth’s surface.

mass of earth = 5.98 x 1024 kg

radius of earth = 6.38 x 106 m
