Intersection
Spoken Synthesis Paper

The Prompt
Consider the intersection of language and culture at work in
1984 , Outliers, and other readings as well as lectures
from class. In a thoughtful presentation, examine the
impact of language on culture and culture on language.
Organize your presentation around a thesis on the topic
while you analyze how each book treats the impact of
language. Include specific references to characters, events
or quotes as you develop your paper. You must also
incorporate lectures and readings from class.

The Format
Introduction - Give background information
about your topic and your thesis. You may consider
using some of the supplemental materials to
provide background.
Body Sections (3)- Present and explain your
evidence. Each section has its own subtopic.
Conclusion - Summarize the subtopics and
thesis. Add final information and concluding insight
about how language and culture function together

The Presenters
1. Every person in the group presents.
2. Assign a section to a person.
3. Each section must be a subtopic that
clearly supports the thesis.
4. Each person will receive a grade from
their group at the end of the
presentation.

The Research
1. Each section must synthesize three (3) of
the sources discussed in class or on the
Weebly.
2. Each section must include direct quotes from
sources. You can also paraphrase. Your
visual presentation must include quotes.

the group.
