While creating this chart I decided to use the same points for each
chart but just add points onto the more extensive chart. I have added an
extra 670 points in the more extensive chart, which is more than half of the
points that the original smaller even uses. Even with adding nearly 700
points I have only added six categories. Important things to me would have
been a clean desk, putting away your materials properly, attendance, and
behavior.
I have found a few strange things while completing this assignment.
One, that the total percent between the two tables has a 3% difference. For
table 1 with only having four total pieces for grading criteria Steven would
receive an 85%. If you look at table 2 if you do the math, the same student
using the same point criteria, would receive an 88%. If he had earned
another 25 points he would have received an A- in the class or a 90%. Using
the first table Steve would have had to earn an extra 35 points in order to
receive a 90%. Not only does Steve have to earn an extra 10 points, he has a
much harder chance to earn these points. With table two on the other hand if
he put his materials away nicely or kept his desk cleaner he could have
earned those points. Out of all of this though I think the reason I put an
emphasis on having a clean desk, putting away your materials properly,
attendance, and behavior is that these aspects would teach the students
skills outside of just art. Especially with elementary students you want them
to learn skills they can apply to their everyday life. Having a clean desk will
make them less stressed because they will be able to find what they are
looking for faster. Putting things back where they belong will allow them to
know where to look for what they want. Attendance will teach them to be on
time for things in their life and behavior just allows them to learn respect for
their surroundings.
